This book is a wake up call, and a must read for everyone. I heard about this book many years ago but I never read it. The Lord has been speaking to me alot as it relates to intercession for the world and the urgency for people to get right with Jesus. Reading this book has put a fire in me to share The Gospel more, and be more diligent in speaking truth. People (including the Church) are not dealing with the reality of eternity, and that is sad and scary. I pray whoever has not given their lives to Jesus or have turned their backs on Him, get right with Him today. Time is short...very short...shorter than many want to accept. And it is not Jesus' will for anyone to perish. He loves us all. God bless you.

I got this book from my older brother as a birthday gift. I wondered to myself, why he chose to give me this hell titled book as a birthday present!!!Once I opened the book and started reading it, I could not put the book down (it was on a Saturday) and I stayed up late until I read the very last page. I love the book because it is not just about a woman's experience as she is taken to hell and escorted by Jesus but that her accounts are biblically sound. Some people may read it and be very skeptical about her experience, but I don't see where it contradicts scripture, and I don't sense any contradiction in my spirit.After reading this book, I had a new zeal for evangelism. The summer I read this book, I was able to witness on the bus and persons who were on the streets and see them give their hearts to the Lord without much effort on my part - just the Holy Spirit at work.God created hell for Satan and the fallen angels but those who chose to deny Christ in their lives, have the same fate. God wishes that we chose the salvation He provides with hope for a wonderful future destination - heaven and not hell. I wouldn't wish my worse enemy or the worse human being on earth to go their. I prefer if they repented and serve God the remainder of their days.There is a story she shared in the book that I never forget. It is about a woman, a lay preacher whose husband cheated on her and confessed it to her asking for her forgiveness. She would not forgive her husband or even ask God to help her forgive. Her unforgiveness grows and darkens her heart to the extent that she grew bitter enough to commit murder of her husband and the woman he cheated with and killed herself. She went to hell. It was sad reading it because, she didn't forgive. It is a strong message on forgiveness - even if the person didn't ask for forgiveness. Forgiveness is key to help us free ourselves from deeper evils of the heart.The book is well written and is an easy read. You won't see hell the same way after reading it and you will have more compassion for souls to motivate you to be a better witness for the Lord.

This book was very intriguing. It was as if you were on the journey with her minus the terror of being left in hell without the Lord. It made me feel as though I do not want to do anything to cause me to be sentenced there. She mentioned the horrible smell, the darkness, the souls that were confined to punishment crying out to be released. She even mentioned some of the works they did on earth that caused them to end up there like worshiping Satan and him promising to give them a portion of his kingdom only to be deceived by him because he shares nothing. Check it out, I know people say they don't want to be scared into getting saved but it is better to be scared and get saved than deceived and go to hell.

I've studied the Holy Bible for the past 15 years. This book lines up with Scripture. After the Holy Bible, this book is the most life-impacting book I have ever read - to me it was life-changing in the first degree. Many many thanks for Ms. Baxter joining Jesus on this very difficult tour and having the courage to write about her experiences for the benefit of all people in these last days.I hope everyone reading this review are on the edge of their seats with an attitude of expectancy. Jesus is surely coming at any moment for His perfect Bride, the church who is ready and waiting for Him with their lamps full of the oil of the Holy Spirit, in excited anticipation. It is going to be much harder for the lukewarm church - those now wedded to this world and its entertainments - to make Heaven after the Rapture. For the most part, only those tortured and killed by the Antichrist for not accepting the mark of the beast will make it there.May the Holy Name of Our Saviour Jesus Christ be forever praised !!!Ted S. As the other reviewer said, there is definitely something wrong with the format of this file. I can view the first page (info on how to use) and the 1st and 2nd pages of the grid, but cannot move past the 2nd grid page (about 15% of the book). The locations go up to 176, and I'm at 29, but there's no going further - if I try to page forward, it jumps back to the 2nd grid page. If I slowly drag the page across (on my Fire) I can see what should be the 3rd grid page, but the info there is identical to the 2nd grid page. I even tried to use the 'go to' option to jump to a random location, and it just popped me back to the 1st grid page.If the formatting was corrected, this would be a useful and interesting little book. I'm not going to delete it in the hopes that the author sees these comments and revises or re-issues the file to work properly. If it gets revised or re-issued, I will re-review and update.

(Chrysler Building, 40 Wall Street, Empire State) It gives a thorough and fascinating look at why these buildings were all built within months of each other, how they were designed and put together, and who came up with the plans and who did the actual construction. Architectural concepts are clearly explained as is the multitude of steps involved in actually erecting a skyscraper. However, this book is not meant just for trained architects, any reader who is interested in any of these three great buildings will be able to understand and visualize all that went into making them NYC landmarks. The book is also a great biography of all the men who designed, built, and paid for these projects. Most of all, this book is a great study of the decade in America when projects like this captivated a nation and the world.

We *had* this book in our library, loaned it out, and never got it back. We liked it so much (each read it twice, at least), that we had to add it to our permanent library. We rarely buy books for this purpose.Need I say more? If you're a fan of architecture, of New York City, or of competition in general, you *gotta* read this book.

The book is a "Must read" If you have interests in construction; New York; twentieth century history; and architecture. It is a "great read" if you have any interest in any one of the four areas I named. I was able to put the book down from time to time so that I could run to my PC and poke around the internet for more information that Neal Bascomb did not quite cover as completely as I liked. I have recommended this book to a number of my friends.

`Higher' is the story about the race for the `highest building in the world', set in New York City in the late 1920's and early 1930's. It portrays the race between the Chrysler Building and the Bank of Manhattan Trust Building (aka 40 Wall Street, current The Trump Building), and when that is settled and done the Empire State Building moves in to beat them all. The book focuses on the architects and their commissioners, who are often self made man not shy of showing their success (which is in fact an American success) powered by the economic boom at the time. The story shows that these kind of skyscrapers really are the product of ego driven characters and economic acceleration. But there really isn't anything wrong with that for as such they are just a symbol of achievement over a rational product of urbanism.The book is full of quotes and it links the relations between the actors which give the book a lively edge, yet it reads as easily as a novel. There plenty of `gee, I didn't know that' facts and details in it, all adding up to the excitement of the story (for example, the famous Chrysler Building spire was topped out one day before the infamous Wall Street crash). By focussing on a few main characters and the topic of height, the book doesn't dwell in all directions which it could have done so easily for it really is a fascinating story to tell. I wouldn't be surprised if this story will be made into a movie or tv series one day for this story and the way it's being told really deserves that.

This is a fascinating retro-look at what the competitive spirit of men with strong determination were able to accomplish with what we will now consider "primitive" technology.

About a month ago I read "Great Fortune: The Epic of Rockefeller Center" by Daniel Okrent. If you are like me and can't get enough of NYC history, Neal Bascomb's "Higher" makes a wonderful companion piece. The subject is similar (massive construction projects), as is the timeframe (1920's-1930's). Mr. Bascomb's book goes into detail concerning the construction of 3 skyscrapers - the Chrysler Building, the Manhattan Company Building, and the Empire State Building. Mr. Bascomb's book works on several levels: as a straight narrative detailing the complexities of putting up super-large buildings; as a collection of mini-biographies of people integral to the story -including Walter Chrysler, and the architects William Van Alen and Craig Severance (former partners who had had a falling out); and as a cultural/social history of NYC as the Roaring Twenties end and the Great Depression begins. The author drives home the point that form and function follow personality and willpower. The beauty of the Chrysler Building is that it is not just another skyscraper. It reflects the vision of William Van Alen (and Walter Chrysler, who took an active interest in the project - looking at hundreds, if not thousands, of Van Alen's drawings and giving his input). Similarly, a man by the name of John Jakob Raskob ( with ties to General Motors, interestingly enough), by sheer force of will, managed to get the financiers to pony-up the money to put-up the Empire State Building even though the Depression had hit. Another "big theme" is that ego can sometimes overcome cool and calculated financial considerations. When Van Alen and Severance (Manhattan Company Building) realized they were in a "shooting for the stars-war" to build the tallest building, they did some things that made the number-crunchers quiver - adding on extra stories (which increases the need for elevator banks, services, etc. and decreases the percentage of rentable space) or adding on geegaws like the spire of the Chrysler Building, with its totally non-rentable area. Likewise, Raskob soldiered on with the Empire State Building even though many people told him he wouldn't be able to rent all that space during a financial downturn. (They were right. It opened with a 23% occupancy rate and was called the "Empty State Building." It didn't turn a profit until 1948.) The public relations war surrounding the 3 buildings provides an entertaining thread that runs throughout the book - when Severance realized that the spire of the Chrysler Building made it tallest, he countered with the argument that you should only count rentable space - which made the Manhattan Company Building higher. (The public didn't buy it. Taller is taller.) When Chrysler's people realized that within a year or so the Empire State Building would become a reality and would be the new number one, they went into "physical denial." They advertised their building as the biggest and the brightest, and pretended that rapidly growing structure on 34th street didn't exist. Sadly, Walter Chrysler didn't know, from an aesthetic standpoint, what he had. Once the Empire State Building was built, Chrysler lost interest in his own building. In his autobiography he only devoted 2 pages to the topic, and he nowhere mentioned Van Alen by name. He called him "the architect." Mr. Bascomb doesn't let the architectural critics of the time off the hook. Most critics yawned at the Chrysler Building - they didn't think much of it, and thought the spire was a useless frill. Poor Van Alen never got another major commission and had to hustle around trying to get minor building jobs from friends and relatives. Another fascinating part of this book is when Mr. Bascomb goes into detail concerning the actual construction process - how many workers were needed for the various projects, the types and amounts of materials, etc. The Empire State Building, whose construction was organized like clockwork by the Starrett brothers, was put-up at the incredible rate of 4 1/2 floors per week. 500 trucks a day delivered materials to the building site, and the steel beams being put into place had been manufactured at the Pennsylvania mills a mere 3 days before. (The beams were still warm when they got to 34th street.) Despite the speed of construction, safety was emphasized. 6 men died (their names are given, by the way) during construction of the Empire State Building, which was amazingly few considering the scale of the project. Finally, the book has 8 pages of interesting black-and-white photos of the time, including one of the famous photographer Margaret Bourke-White perched atop the eagle gargoyle on the Chrysler Building, getting ready to snap a shot. If you suffer from vertigo you may want to skip that photo, as well as the one of the photographer Jack Reilly hanging from the 72nd story steelwork of the Manhattan Company Building.....

This book is a good read with a lot of good insight, you don't have to be religious, a yogi, or anything like that to absorb a lot of good information from it. A lot of what the book touches on will improve anyone's life and outlook like detaching from the constant need to accumulate more and more, it just makes you nuts, declutter and simplify.

It's taken me a while to get through the book, and now I'm going to start all over. As a public bus driver I am witness to a wide variety of humanity every day. I liked the fact that Adele SOUNDED like a gentle, wise, effective person.I confess that I have a bias here. I believe that my own life has been influenced, and even transformed, whenever I've aligned with the yamas and niyamas over the last 15+ years. And as a result, I was in the process of writing my own (first) book on this long-neglected topic, emphasizing how it relates to progress in psychotherapy. Well, I still think there's a future in that book! Suffice it to say that I share the author's enthusiasm for her topic.

I absolutely love this book. It is very accessible and easy to understand, you will not get lost in Sanskrit trying to understand the yamas and the niyamas with this book! I had to read this when I was going through a yoga teacher training program, and it was my very favorite of all of the book assignments. It's a short, easy read, and the author has a way of making the teachings very relatable to modern life. Fantastic.

Well written, interesting, even has exercises for those looking to deepen their practice. I'm really enjoying slowly reading through it and would recommend it to everyone, regardless of religion! The yamas and niyamas are more basic life practices for being a good person rather than specific religious dogma.

The Yamas & Niyamas is a wonderful book that I would recommend to anyone. The book focuses on being good to ourselves and others as well as being present in the moment through 5 Yamas (nonviolence, truthfulness, nonstealing, nonexcess, and nonpossessiveness) and 5 Niyamas (purity, contentment, self-discipline, self-study, and surrender). The concepts and ideas are very simple and inspiring but at the same time not obvious in everyday life. There are 4 weekly ideas and suggestions after each Yama and Niyama which I am going back through after reading it in full. They are personally challenging in a great way. There are so many fantastic insights for each and every one of these ideas. In yoga, the Yamas and Niyamas are considered 2/8 of the practice. Anyone practicing yoga or interested in self-improvement will love this book.

It is difficult to add a review that has not already said everything good there is to say about this book. So, I add this here to help keep the 5 star rating for this book and simply say there is no better material on this topic that I have EVER come across as good as this. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Needless to say, they are a source of trouble and frustration in my profession, because they don't really understand what accounting is supposed to do, much less how it is supposed to be done, and too many of them don't provide me with the kind of financial reporting that makes tax preparation accurate and as easy as anything that involves thousands of pages of government regulations!These entrepreneurs would do well to read these three books by Greg Shields: Accounting Principles, Financial Accounting, and Management Accounting. They explain, in short and concise chapters, what accounting is and how it works. Even if it only allows entrepreneurs to speak the language their accountant uses, or convinces them that they need an accountant in the first place, it would be worth it.My only objection is that sometimes Mr. Shield's writes like an accountant. He is technically accurate and understandable, but no poet. In one chapter, he compares basic accounting rules to what appear to be U.S. Army regulations, as if that would be a comparison that would make sense to most people, rather than the relatively small percentage of the population who have military experience. I thought was a strange choice, even if it wasn't so obscure as to be impossible to understand.But that is quibbling. In fact, if you want a short and compact, but 100% accurate, accounting tutorial, these books by Greg Shields have my recommendation.

Another awesome resource from Greg Shields. Not only does he provide an overview of what financial and management accounting are but he also points out why each are used and any limitations. In this book, you will find all the business analysis tools (ratios) you will ever need for cashflow, solvency, liquidity, leverage, activity, and more! He explains which ratios to use and why and the limitations of each one. He even breaks down each of the financial statements and gives their purpose, how to set them up, and how to analyze. In addition, he provides additional food for thought in running a financially successful business or even identifying one.This book is not "Gone with the Wind" or even something you would sit and read in one hour--what book filled with ratios is? But if you are looking for tools that you can apply for the growth of your business or build your financial acuity, then this is it. Even if you have been in accounting for a while, this book is a great reference to have. Shields has taken what you would find in a 1,000 plus page textbook and provided it in less then 200 pages!

I have been in accounting/bookkeeping for over 20 years and this is a wonderful resource for anyone, whether you're new to the field or have been in it for a long time. It is a welcome addition to my virtual bookshelf and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a refresher or a guide to have on hand for reference. Small business owners would benefit from having this book as well; they could learn how to tell if their business is making money and how to read financial reports and use them to make business decisions. Overall great book!

So I'll admit this review is based on what it isn't and not what it is. It's mostly a personal shortcoming. I can't read sheet music and that's what this is. I thought it would be tab, but I guess I should have read the description better. As a sheet music book though, I'm assuming it's tops.

The book was wonderful. The guitar chords were easy to read.

I was hoping for the guitar tabs as well, nonetheless, excellent book, missing the star for the lack of tabs, otherwise, go for it.

Russell Blake expertly merged realism with nail biting action, resisting the temptation to unleash JET too soon. However, as JET warms up, and regains her stride...there is no stopping this ex-Mossad agent. She kicks ass and buries her enemies on an epic scale across multiple continents, culminating in one of the best action sequences I've read in years. The final scene combined the Monte Carlo-esque opulence and glamour from James Bond's Casino Royale with the hard hitting "black ops" tradecraft of The Bourne Identity...all in one unforgettable ending.And there is a twist. When I read Blake, I'm always looking for the twist. I didn't see this one coming at all. It changes everything for JET.JET lays the foundation for an entertaining, thrill-a-minute, gritty Covert Ops series, staring the baddest female protagonist ever.

I feel like I've found a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow with this author. Being a newbie to the Russell Blake world of writing, Jet was a tremendous way to start reading not only the beginning of what will be a Jet series but a beginning to reading his entire collection of books.In Jet, Russell Blake doesn't ease you into the beginning with this book, he starts you off running and you don't stop until the end. I'm not an arms master - couldn't tell you the difference between a Saturday Night Special and a Glock but Russell Blake broke open a world where fire power, spy apparatus, and kill or be-killed moves are an every day occurrence, and delivered it in such a way that I was both fascinated and wide-eyed with the knowledge I gained. Don't forget to dust your passport off because the plot carries you from country to country. From Monaco to Punta Gorda, you get to see both picturesque waterfronts and the sights, sounds and smells of third world countries. Russell Blake plunks you right smack dab in the middle of it all.Blake has made Jet a woman you don't want to mess around with but not to the point where other women would feel threatened by her. She has feelings and depth. This is a woman I would want on my side and her cell phone number to call if I ever needed some intimidation. As far as the plot, the twists are artfully conveyed where you don't know what to expect next. Want to take a quiet walk down the street? Rethink that when you hear the telltale whistle of bullets slicing through the air towards you.Thankfully, at the end of Jet, Russell Blake has given a sneak-peek of Chapter One from what will be the second in this series. This author doesn't know how to let up on the action....and I'm so glad. Well done, Mr. Blake. It is my pleasure to highly recommend this book to lovers of all genres.

This overlooked book sat in my Kindle library for more then two years and was finally chosen after completing another book by Russell Blake. Jet is an edge of your seat international roller coaster ride. The story opens with Jet as a small town store owner on the island of Trinidad. Suddenly, Jet is attacked by a professional hit man who is part of a squad sent to kill her. Readers soon learn that she is not the demure, innocent female that others in the town believed. She, too, is a ruthless killer and former member of Mossad - the secret service of Israel. She got out of the business two years earlier by collaborating with her boss to fake her death. How did they find her and who's paying for the hit? Only two people were aware of her existence and location...the other was her former boss.Jet is successful in escaping the island and heads to Israel to confront her former boss. When she arrives, she finds herself in another fight with a professional hit squad. This time, her former boss was the target and she finds him gut shot and unconscious. To save him, she has to kill all the attackers.She soon learns that every Mossad agent who participated in their last mission - where she faked her death - were recently assassinated and only her and David remained. They finally learn who is responsible for the hits and why...it was time to plan their own hits and become "The Predators" to end this madness. The author is not making this task easy and has added some twists, turns and traps for the two of them. The journey becomes a quest for survival tinged with a touch of revenge. Don't miss this one!
