I am a teacher trying to start a high school newspaper and this book has been a godsend. Covers everything from the legal issues to meeting deadlines and the basic structure of a news story. I bought seven journalism books to try to build this course/paper and this is really the only one I needed.Definitely aimed at a college newspaper audience, but very easily adapted for my needs.

I got this book when I was assigned to revive a dormant community college newspaper and it was the single most useful resource I encountered. In particular it helped me figure out how to recruit and motivate editors and staff and how to guide student writers in their reporting, writing and revising process. There is a lot of basic and useful information and it's presented in an appealing and easy to grasp manner. There are sections with tips from the pros on topics like investigative reporting, how to write a sex column, how to write a review, and how to gather documents through sunshine laws. The book has easy to follow charts for basic newswriting and story construction, it shows the organization of a typical newspaper staff and the order of events for every news cycle. It has easy to xerox templates for article assignment sheets and more. For each section there are suggestions for further reading both online and in print. About the only thing missing here is a section on how to deal with finances. Still it's a great tool and very readable. If you're looking for a good place to start as a student journalist or a media advisor at the college level, this book has what you need.

About the Author

Richard G. Luecking, Ed.D., is the President of TransCen, Inc., a non-profit organization based in Rockville, Maryland, that is dedicated to improving education and employment outcomes for people with disabilities. Dr. Luecking has held this position since 1987, when he was charged by the Board of Directors as the organization's first employee to create improved linkages between schools, employment service providers, government, business, and families so that youth with disabilities experience improved post-school employment outcomes. During his tenure with the organization, he and his TransCen colleagues have been responsible for the design and implementation of numerous model demonstration and research projects related to school-to-work transition and employment of people with disabilities. He is the author of a range of publications on related topics, including the book, The Way to Work: How to Facilitate Work Experiences for Youth in Transition (Paul H. Brookes Publishing Co., 2009).Ellen S. Fabian, Ph.D., is Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling and Personnel Services (CAPS) at the University of Maryland, College Park. Dr. Fabian's career includes program development and evaluation in job development and supported employment, as well as research, training, and teaching in these and related areas. She has served in a number of leadership positions and maintains a strong interest in psychiatric rehabilitation, career development, and rehabilitation counseling.George P. Tilson, Ed.D., is Senior Vice President of TransCen, Inc. He assisted the Marriott Foundation for People with Disabilities in creating its youth career program, Ã¢â‚¬Å“Bridges . . . from school to work,Ã¢â‚¬Â and subsequently became the national director. He has co-developed and directed numerous innovative demonstration and research projects and written numerous articles and book chapters on such topics as career counseling, job development, and accommodation strategies. He is the coauthor of Working Relationships: Creating Career Opportunities for Job Seekers with Disabilities Through Employer Partnerships (with Richard G. Luecking and Ellen S. Fabian; Paul H. Brookes Publishing Co., 2004). Dr. Tilson has conducted training nationally and internationally to corporations, employment service agencies, school systems, student and parent groups, and government agencies. He serves as an adjunct professor of education and human development at The George Washington University. Prior to joining TransCen in 1989, Dr. Tilson was a high school English and special education teacher, career counselor, and program evaluator. Erin Riehle is a recognized authority and national leader in promoting employment opportunities for people with disabilities and other barriers to employment. She is a founder and Senior Director of Project SEARCH, an employment and transition program that has received national recognition for innovative practices. When she started Project SEARCH, Erin was a nurse manager at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center with no particular expertise in disability issues beyond the strictly medical. Her motivation was to offer people with disabilities-who made up a significant portion of the hospital's patient volume-the same opportunities for training and employment that were available to everyone else. She brought a business perspective to the field of disability education, as well as an ability to bring organizations together for a shared purpose. Now, Erin is regularly invited to present at national and regional conferences, and has co-authored numerous publications and book chapters. She has served on many national committees and is a past board member for the Association for Persons in Supported Employment (APSE), the Ohio Governor's Council on People with Disabilities, and the U.S. Business Leadership Network. Project SEARCH received the U.S. Department of Labor's 2004 New Freedom Initiative Award, was the Inaugural recipient of Dartmouth-Hitchcock's 2010 James W. Varnum National Quality Award, and received a 2011 Inclusion Champion Award from Mitsubishi Electric America. Erin lives in Terrace Park, Ohio with her partner, Judy, and their inimitable dog, Molly. When Erin grows up, she wants to be a master gardener.

It's main point is to MEET THE EMPLOYER'S NEEDS. Don't try to sell your client on the basis of his/her needs, which is to sell charity. Rather, find out the employer's needs for skills and provide a candidate meeting those needs. That's a classic maxim from the sales profession and it is well presented here.

This book fits my professors's requirements, so I read it as needed.

Extremely well written for an audience of 5th-9th grade students. In the first part of the book, the author clarifies what we know about climate change while also addressing common myths and misunderstandings. In the second part of the book, Gaia warriors are revealed--that is people who are striving to save the planet in noteworthy ways are being revealed. At the same time, these ideas are a call to action for the reader and many are within our reach of doing. These ideas are not the "same old" either. "Dressing for the climate," a two-page spread on one designer who is up-cycling used clothes for her fashion line is one example of the innovation discussed in the book. The layout and design of this book is fabulously appealing and engaging - with quotes, photos, diagrams, illustrations, etc. and a decent size print which aids the reader when the author describes complex concepts early on in the book. Across the book, you, the reader, meet lots and lots of young people, scientists, and activists and when you are done with book, you feel like you've met an entire world-wide community and hopefully, you're inspired. James Proctor first came across all things Nordic as a student. After mistakenly wandering into a Swedish lecture, he soon realised that his native Yorkshire dialect, liberally laced with dozens of old Viking words, was going to make learning this offbeat Scandinavian language a doddle. And so began a love affair with the Nordic countries, which has endured to this day â€“ 30 years or so later. As the BBC's Scandinavia correspondent in the 90s, James travelled widely across the Nordic countries and has since written no fewer than six travel guides to the region. He first visited Svalbard in 2017 and, despite his knowledge of northern countries, was still struck by the fact that it takes a full 1Â½ hours by jet-engined 737 to reach Svalbard from northernmost Lapland. A trip to Svalbard will always be one of those once-in-a-lifetime adventures and James is glad to count himself among the members of this still rather exclusive club who have made it to the High Arctic. Today he divides his time between the South of France and his beloved Yorkshire.Anika Paust left her studies in Aerospace Engineering to travel the world, but ended up in the tiny town of Longyearbyen just 1,300km from the North Pole, and on the opposite side of the planet from her home town of Perth, Western Australia. I've got lots of cookbooks - but this is the one that's falling apart from so much use! I've given so many gifts of this book and use it weekly.

I gave this book to a friend of mine who has opened a cafe in a small town... and I know of her struggles to get going... from the decoration of the place, the equipment necessary, the cooking, the patrons, the training of the cooks and waitresses and so much detail. They started just serving lunch but now they are open three night a week for dinner and so far so good.Then I bought it for myself, because I just have to make some of that wonderful food to enjoy with friends and with family.I recommend it, it is well written, it is inspiring. I stresses the value of good, fresh produce, and the best ingredients.Hope to someday visit Cafe Beaujolais... I live in Atlanta, Georgia, was born and raised in Lima, Peru.

The recipes in this book are great, especially the tomato soup and chicken salad (Chinese). I really liked the simple way in which they were written and the use of readily available ingredients. My favorite part of the book was all the minutae about the restaurant itself. From starting a restaurant, to running it, to buying provisions, to personnel, the book was a fascinating inside look at the business of food. The authors never complained, but they made me realize what a tough business they are in. Hope I can visit Cafe Beaujolais sometime.

I absolutely love this cookbook. I found it when I was in culinary school, and loved the style of food, loved the idea of a woman chef owning her own small restaurant on the Northern California Coast in Mendocino. She's not there, now, unfortunately, but I just recently bought my third copy of her book! I still love it after 25 years.

Recipes are even better than I expected!

This may be one of my all time top five cook books ever written. To have at least a third of the book devoted to the running, planning and thinking of a restaurant is still relevant, even after all this time. and then the recipes. the Chicken Stuffed under The skin is phenomenal; the Amazon Cake is classic. And the soups are still some of the best ever made. Where did she go???? Margaret:::write something new....(and yes, I do have "Morning Foods".....)

Tasty and easy enough to follow recipes. My go to book when cooking at home.

I purchased this cookbook many years ago but I either lent it to someone or it got lost in the shuffle. Wanted to replace my copy so ordered it from Amazon and was delighted with the condition of the book and how quickly it arrived. Also, this was a signed copy which was a surprise.When Margaret Fox was the chef/owner, we always had at least one meal there when visiting Mendocino. I love the Congo Bar recipe and the story that Margaret Fox tells about it.

So far this book fits my needs,.I'm not sure if it is the definitive guide for fitting, but it is comprehensive. This book coupled with sewing classes would help anyone who sews.I'm not sure if it is available in an e-book version, but if it is...I will invest in that version as well.I do wish it had been available in hardback for the price I paid.I would recommend this book for a beginner all the way through to an advanced sewist.

I am a College-level fashion design instructor and purchased this book hoping to help my students reign down the complexities of pattern fitting. Unfortunately, this book lists no foundational principles, no step-by-step approach, and no decent table of content, let alone decent illustrations. It's a dense, poorly laid-out catalogue of 'real people with real pattern fitting issues' pictures, but doesn't expose the real analysis that went through or the pattern manipulation that it required. I rarely return books, but I couldn't hold onto this one: it was nearly making me unlearn what I know. Seriously muddles everything and turns fitting into a series of exceptions rather than a logical process. Stick to the fitting section contained in serious textbooks like Cabrera's.

Wow!! I could say that I was really blown away by this book. I'm a beginner sewer (in it for about 4 months now) and I really wanted to make the most of the patterns I have purchased. This book was recommended to me in a Facebook sewing group.Before receiving the book, I thought that it would be decent and quite methodological. Also thought it would come in just the plain white book paper and black ink. Boy was I so wrong. I browsed through the pages upon receiving it and it's really a delight to look at.The pages are semi-glossy / matte and are in full-color. It's like a magazine but it's packed with lots of information that a newbie like me would have to absorb like a sponge haha.I'm so glad I chose to go with this recommended book before buying the others. I'm sure it will take me a while before I need to order other books because this seems sufficient for my needs :)

I LOVE THIS BOOK! It is filled with so much information. Updated alteration methods are shown in clear, concise ways.

I have taken the fit classes from Palmer and Pletsch and am a certified fit instructor with them. This is the new edition with several new techniques. It is user friendly, and I use it when teaching fitting.

Has fixes for all fitting issues. Plus I just found out I don't have to a muslin, which has always been a problem for me because it just seems so wasteful.

My wife says it's well done and worth the $$. She spent the day in it and says it's the best book for sewing clothes the right way.

I hesitated about getting this edition because some of the reviewers here mention difficult navigation but am now extremely glad I bought it. Yes, as others have noted, it has a very long, detailed, active Table of Contents which takes a lot of time to page all the way through. It is fine if you are looking for something near the beginning, like Morning Prayer, but cumbersome for anything toward the middle or end. However, there are other easy ways to navigate through the book.First, if you use Kindle's search feature and search for the word "quick" (without the quotes), you will see numerous Quick Navigation indexes and can choose any you want: Page Numbers, Collects, Psalms, Canticles, Prefaces, Litanies, Sentences of Scripture, Confessions of Sins, Other Prayers, or Common Services. Each is an active index. If you go to the Psalms index, for example, you can select the number of any psalm and immediately arrive at it. I have bookmarked several of these indexes and can now get to them in a snap.Another navigation option is searching for page numbers. The numbers in this Kindle edition are coordinated with those in the current standard edition. Thus, if you have access to a paper edition of the BCP but would rather read on the Kindle where you can adjust the font to a comfortable size, you can note the page number of any often-visited page in your paper edition and then search for it with Kindle's search feature. For example, Prayers and Thanksgivings starts on page 810. If you search for "p. 810"(without the quotes and with a space after the period), you arrive there in a jiffy. (I have found it is quicker to enter numbers by simultaneously pressing ALT and the appropriate letter on the top row of the Kindle keyboard than by opening the "Sym" page.) While using the Kindle during a church service might be distracting, this edition is very nice indeed for prayer at home or while traveling. I am definitely glad I have it!

I have two Kindle versions of the BCP, both the one by Episcopal Church and Christian Miracle Foundation Press (EC for short) as well as the one by Church Publishing (CP). I feel like they each have pros and cons, and I'm happy to have both. I'm placing this same review in both locations.I prefer the formatting in the CP; it's a bit cleaner. However, the EC includes the page numbers which, while it can be disruptive while reading, certainly helps me to find a particular page quickly.The Table of Contents in the CP is short and easy to navigate while the one in the EC is very long and takes forever to get through. So the CP TOC will get you to a general area of the book, while the EC TOC will get you to exactly the spot that you want. I don't use the TOC often because I just bookmark all the main spots that I want to get to quickly.One thing that I love about the EC is that in the Daily Office Lectionary, the Psalms readings are hyperlinked to the Psalter, making it very easy to move back and forth between the two sections of the book.Both books occasionally crash the Kindle app, but it does seem like the CP version does it more often.If I had to choose only one (which, realistically, I should have), it would be the EC version. I find that its pros outweigh its cons, and it's less than a third of the price of the CP version.

who can NOT like the Book of Common Prayer. Non-believers can like this book. The only reason I would not give it 5 stars is that it is a Kindle edition and it is hard for me to navigate. It is highly possible, being a 65 year old luddite, that I just don't know what I'm doing. You know what Episcopalians say: I believe the Bible is God's Word because it is quoted in the Book of Common Prayer. Seriously, when I have problems, some of the prayers held "in common" come into my memory. When I am down I remembers that God, ". . . is the same Lord whose property is always to have mercy." That is a cool thing to remember when you are feeling cursed. I like it that the prayers have been carefully crafted, gone over for several hundred years, and repeated by millions. These are prayers we all hold in common, and they are not hillbilly prayers full of "Well God we just happy to be here with ya" prayers. The prayers are short, focused and beautifully crafted. The services are there if you want to study them, to know them. This is a book of prayers for all people to share, they are prayers held in common.

I've always loved The Book of Common Prayer and really enjoy having it on my Kindle. But, this version is a little difficult to navigate and if I ever have to back arrow more than once, I get taken to my Carousel, rather than to the Table of Contents, or wherever I started from.

This book is first in a set of three. It is a wonderful trilogy set during the time of Jesus Christ, featuring a fictional family and their friends who encounter a new preacher... Who is he? Is he the Messiah? Some family members accept Him immediately and follow Him. Others question and take time. .Belief has consequences The book is an excellent view into the times of Christ. There's chapter notes at the end of each chapter with documentation, explanations of the customs and history. I learned about Pharisees,Sadduces, Zealots, Romans, but best of all this book brought to life the Bible stories I've heard all my life. My understanding has grown - of questions like: How could the crowds love him one day and call for his crucifixion the next? Why were some leaders of the Jews so virulent against this Man who taught his followers to turn the other cheek? The story is gripping, well woven and inspiring. I'm reading it now for the second time and loving it!

I really enjoyed Fishers of Men. Gerald N. Lund has a great balance of keeping you engaged and excited while also teaching you the history of the setting in all of is books. Fishers of Men is no different. I am definitely going to continue and read the whole series. I love the personal conflict each character goes through when the stranger who is called Jesus comes. Each of them have something that they must give up in order to follow Christ. By the first chapter you will be hooked by the suspense, but the full adventure doesnâ€™t come full underway until youâ€™re close toward the end and that can take some time getting too. The book itself is over 600 pages so itâ€™s not a fast read. If you want a book that has adventure and excitement with a touch of romance while also enhancing your understanding of Christ in a personal way, this is the book for you! I would recommend it to anyone.

the kingdom and the crown is a fictional story about a family during the time of the ministry of Christ. Although it doesn't really give Christ a three dimensional character (in my opinion, since the author tried to keep his character in line with the bible) the rest of the characters are well written and the location, time frame, and customs have been heavily researched. Gerald Lund really did his homework so you do feel like your actually there.

This book puts you right in the middle of 30 AD. I do not care for "voluminous" books-but I cannot put this one down. It is suspenseful, and I can easily put myself in the middle of the times and places that have occurred anciently...looking forward to reading the other two volumes!

This was an engaging book which gave insight into what the Jewish people were experiencing at the time of Jesus' ministry and how difficult it might have been to accept Jesus as the messiah because of their misconceptions of how he would come and what he was there to accomplish. It helped with understanding of the times, the different factions in both the Jewish community and the Roman occupation. With events in story form with fictitional families and their stories, I gained insight into Jesus ministry and teachings as well.

This is an excellent novel based on the Four Gospels. Ironically, portraying fictional characters in the time of Christ makes the Bible stories more real. This is the first volume in the Kingdom & Crown series, and one should read them in order to appreciate the series fully.

This book was the perfect book to read to my first graders as we hatched baby chicks for a local farmer in our classroom incubator. It was well illustrated, informative and the correct level for first graders. It is a very useful book for teaching the lifecycle of chickens. I would certainly add it to any classroom library or science reference books for young children. They will learn proper terms and many interesting details about chicks from egg to adulthood.

We Loved the book and it would have been very helpful if the book had been delivered in a timely manner.We were in the process of hatching eggs in our pre- school room and seeing this life- cycle would have been interesting.Unfortunately, book ordered April 20 eggs Hatched April 25th.. and the book arrived MAY !0

This is a wonderful book for children and adults to read to children. There is however, a mistake that should be corrected in the book. After having raised dozens and dozens of chickens, the real truth is chickens do NOT lay several eggs at a time. They lay only ONE EGG at a time and it takes about 25 hours for a chicken to produce and egg, so you can generally expect an egg a day from each chicken, (some do lay less)Please do more research and correct this mistake. There are many children who will believe what you write and it needs to be the absolute truth. Thanks!

I didn't think much of this little book. It contains misleading statements--certainly not what one wants in a book meant for educational purposes. The illustrations are nice. That's about it.

Great condition.

i ordered this book to help with cycles -- ok but doesn't really interest kids 3-4 age thoughmaybe a bit older
