An absolutely fascinating book. For an outline, I suggest you refer to other reviews. What impressed me so much - history buff I am - is the incredible wealth of historic information, from a vivid description of Baku as perhaps the earliest oil-boomtown in history, through a great many different revolutions in Russia and neighboring countries in the Caucasus (first under the Tsars and later the Mensheviks and Bolsheviks), the Habsburg Empire, Germany, Italy and the Ottoman Empire - in the early twentieth century, during and shortly after the end of WW I and between wars. We get detailed information about the rise of Lenin, Stalin, Attatürk, Hitler, Mussolin,i about the life of the Russian Emigrés in Paris, Prague and Berlin, about life in early Nazi Germany for Germans as well as for Jews (Germans as well as from the Russian-Polish Pale of Settlement). All this is knowledge is imparted in a non-put-downable true but incredible and unbelievably colorful life story of a of Baku-born Jew, son of an Azeri oil magnate father and an early Russian Bolshevik revolutionary mother who, during his lifetime, re-invented himself as a Muslim prince and Orientalist who, having emigrated under incredibly dangerous circumstances, through the Caucasus, via Central Asia, Persia, Constantinople, Paris, New York, North Germany and finally Berlin, became a famous writer who sold his books in many languages including German. Incredibly, as a Jew he became a bestselling author in Nazi Germany. .Through the highs and lows of his life, he wrote famous novels like "Ali and Nino" (never out of print until today!), but also early biographies of Lenin, Stalin and Mussolini. He finally died nearly pennyless in Positano in Nazi-controlled Italy in 1942, miraculously still unharmed from fascist or nazi persecution. A very interesting and enjoyable read.

Tom Reiss's book, "The Orientalist: Solving the Mystery of a Strange and Dangerous Life", is the very strange story of author Lev Nussembaum and his identity, which has been obscured through the 20th century. It is also the story of Tom Reiss's search for that story and is, at times, as much about the "hunter" as the "hunted".Lev Nussembaum was, at various times in his life, a Jew, a Muslim, and a hybrid. It seemed to depend on where he was living at the time and what he wanted to write. Born to Jewish parents in the oil capitol of Baku, he changed identities as often, it seems, as he changed clothing. Certainly the political extingencies of the times - the Russian Revolution, Nazism, Bolshevism - that Lev lived through, called for a somewhat "flexible" identity.Tom Reiss began searching for Lev Nissembaum when he began searching for the author of "Ali and Nino", reputed to be one Kurban Said. Long years of searching and interviewing led to Lev Nissembaum, who had died in 1942. Reis's book is a long, sometimes repetitive, but always interesting look at foreign places and wars and how they led to Lev Nissembaum.

This story opened up a new aspect of Jewish history of wish I was previously unaware. Lev Nussimbaum's involvement in so many of the tumult that took place in Russia and Europe during the years it covers is extraordinary. Sadly, the book also reveals how deeply seated anti-Semitism was everywhere this unusual person went. Bolsheviks blamed the world's ills on Jewish capitalists. Pre-Nazi fascists blamed Bolshevism on the Jews. Capitalists simply turned their backs on Jews. And he felt it all, no matter how hard he tried to reinvent himself.Lev Nussimbaurm is not particularly likable, but I have to respect his intelligence; and I can't imagine how I would have dealt with the challenging circumstances within which he found himself. He is flawed, like all of us. He was bright yet naive. He was hopeful at the wrong times. HIs fears lead him to be blind to the dangers of certain ideologies. My one criticism of the book was that the author could have found a better way to help the reader keep track of some of the many characters who come in and out of Lev's life, and then resurface later.

Lev's entire, albeit brief, life is fascinating and Tom Reiss does a superb job of researching and presenting it. I had long wondered about the "real" author of Ali and Nino since no such person named Kurban Said ever stepped forward to claim authorship. It now seems evident that Lev, a strange and brilliant Jewish Orientalist, deserves the credit. However, while the subject matter is intriguing, Reiss's writing style can be circuitous, his sentences are complex, often with many thoughts linked together in such a way that that it necessitates the patient rereading a sentence or entire paragraph and he frequently refers to people who might not be familiar to Western readers today (e.g., fortunately I learned in a college philosophy course who Martin Buber was). In other words, this is not an easy book to read, even though it is historically accurate and the meat of the story, complete with reproductions of old photographs, is truly riveting. As an aside: There is a very good movie entitled "Baku - The City of Ali and Nino." If you are drawn to this story as much as I am, it would be well worth it to track down this film, which puts the entire novel in its geographical and historical context.

Fascinating! I had to keep Google handy all the way through, as there were so many new names, places, concepts. Not a quick read by any means, but worth it. Lev Nussimbaum - Essad Bey - Kurban Said was a truly intriguing man. A Jew who became Muslim, from Baku, Azarbaijan, and fled various political aggressions, which led to him changing his identity. He came into contact with many famous people who influenced his life, including artists, writers & powerful political figures, & ended up in Nazi Germany as Hitler came to power. It was not an easy read, but I love to learn - and I surely did!

Amazon.com Review

Fourteen-year-old Luce has had a tough life, but she reaches the depths of despair when she is assaulted and left on the cliffs outside of a grim, gray Alaskan fishing village. She expects to die when she tumbles into the icy waves below, but instead undergoes an astonishing transformation and becomes a mermaid. A tribe of mermaids finds Luce and welcomes her in—all of them, like her, lost girls who surrendered their humanity in the darkest moments of their lives. Luce is thrilled with her new life until she discovers the catch: the mermaids feel an uncontrollable desire to drown seafarers, using their enchanted voices to lure ships into the rocks. Luce possesses an extraordinary singing talent, which makes her important to the tribe—she may even have a shot at becoming their queen. However her struggle to retain her humanity puts her at odds with her new friends. Will Luce be pressured into committing mass murder? The first book in a trilogy, Lost Voices is a captivating and wildly original tale about finding a voice, the healing power of friendship, and the strength it takes to forgive. Sarah Porter on Lost Voices Dear Amazon Readers, The mermaids of legend sink ships and drown sailors, but no one ever seems to ask why. Is their behavior really nothing more than mindless cruelty? Or do the mermaids suffer from a deeper compulsion? If so, what provokes their dark desires? Would it even be possible for a mermaid to make a different choice and change her destiny? Lost Voices is a search for the secret hearts of mermaids. The mermaids of the Lost Voices trilogy are the girls who have lost their humanity through suffering--but whose humanity keeps coming back to haunt them? They can enchant seafarers and drown them, yet they can’t drown their own feelings of loss and rejection. But if revenge can’t heal their heartache, what can? Many of us struggle to understand who we are and what our own humanity means. Once you learn all the bad things people are capable of, then how can you accept that you’re one of them? Especially when we’re young, I think a lot of us experience something similar to what the mermaids feel: we have a sense of being like everyone else but also fundamentally "other," part of the everyday world but also outside it. Sometimes we don’t know if we want to fit in, or if we’d rather just be as different as possible. These mermaids think they’re superior to humankind. They want to believe they’ve escaped from both the vulnerability and the brutality that are part of the human condition. But some of them gradually come to understand that there are aspects of their humanity that are worth fighting to preserve--no matter what the price. Best, Sarah

"A haunting debut. . . . Porter’s writing is expressive and graceful. . . . . a captivatingly different story."—Booklist "A beautifully written and heartbreaking story about a lost soul struggling to forgive the people she loved who wronged her, and ultimately to forgive herself."—Jennifer Echols, author of Going Too Far   "It might be shelved as a fantasy, but Lost Voices is full of gripping, harsh realism. Without resorting to stereotypes or tired high school plots, it deals with the complications of friendship and peer pressure. And at its core, it's nothing more than a really believable, understandable and relatable story about finding one's voice. Its relevance to real life and its references to the real issues that create lost girls --- abuse, neglect, rape, bad parenting and more--make it a one-of-a-kind mermaid story. For that reason, it will appeal to paranormal, fantasy and realism fans alike."--teenreads.com   "This is a dark and compelling take on a world usually depicted as more lighthearted. . . . Porter nonetheless carefully doles out enough possibilities to keep the overall tone hopeful, and given the already numerous perky mermaids, these gritty, wounded souls are a creative and welcome addition to the field."--Bulletin   "The beautifully crafted first book of the Lost Voices trilogy is told in such a rich, despairing aqua tinged tone, it leaves you desperate for more."--Fantasy Book Review

With summer fast approaching, I've been on a bit of a mermaid kick lately. If anyone were to ask me, mermaids are probably one of my favorite mythological beings/creatures, and the lore surrounding them varies wildly from one story to another. For whatever reason, both the cover and the plot synopsis of this book caught my curiosity, so I decided to give it a shot. And for the most part, my gamble paid off.In a small town in Alaska, Lucette (or Luce, as she likes to be called) is a young woman who's had far from an easy life growing up. With her mother deceased, her loving-but-con artist father lost at sea, and her alcoholic uncle abusing her at home, Luce is desperate for any sort of escape. But then, on the night of her 14th birthday, fate deals her an unexpected hand when, after being attacked by her uncle, Luce is flung into the ocean...and transforms into a mermaid. Soon after, she's rescued and taken in by a tribe of fellow mermaids, who teach her all the secrets of her stunning transformation. But just as it seems as if her life's changed for the better, she's hit with a horrifying fact--mermaids use their powerful singing voices to hypnotize sailors into sinking ships, and her new "family" is more than happy to do it; wanting to take revenge on the humans who harmed them. Torn between two worlds, Luce will have to find a way to get used to her new aquatic life while trying to retain as much of her remaining humanity as possible....and in doing so, she just may discover a hidden strength she never knew she had.Well right off the bat, it's safe to say from the above summary that despite the story being about mermaids and featuring a young protagonist, this book is NOT for a young audience. It features more than a fair share of death, discussions about murder and abuse, and two noteworthy scenes where a group of girls are nearly burned alive, and Luce is nearly assaulted by her uncle (though thankfully, this is all handled fairly tastefully with no overly graphic descriptions). (And speaking of descriptions, the narration is fantastic, with imagery that really makes you feel like you're swimming in the ocean and hearing the weight and emotion of the siren songs.)So why all this talk about death and violence? Well, as it turns out, in this world, mermaids aren't born in the traditional sense--they're created via magic. And the determining factor of who becomes a mermaid basically depends on how tragic a life the girl/woman led when they were human. Each one of the characters experienced some sort of extreme tragedy or hardship in their lives--transforming into mermaids during their darkest moments and/or near death. Because of this, it's easy to see why these young women-turned-mythological beings would want to sink ships at every opportunity; blaming all of humanity for their problems. This winds up making Luce the most well-rounded character of the book. Slowly but surely, she goes through a bit of an arc; starting off as a quiet and timid person who tries everything to keep her head down and go unnoticed by everyone, then gradually gains more confidence in herself the more she exercises the new abilities she's been granted since becoming a mermaid. She's the only one who calls her friends 'actions into question, and is one of the few who truly sees the horror in what the mermaids are doing. The other mermaids are a varied bunch; some more likeable than others. And the more Luce shakes up the status quo, the more that a fight begins to break out over who will rightfully take over as queen. More than once, the narrative shows how easily a crowd can be manipulated, and that the black and white views the mermaids have on humanity is wrong. Just because you've been mistreated doesn't mean you should take your anger out on others, especially if said people had nothing to do with causing your misery. The book isn't without its flaws, however, and most of them lie with the vague explanations of how the mermaid "rules" work. We're never told where this magic originates from, or why it only chooses abused women to change into mermaids, or why men can't be transformed into mer-people too. There IS a set of rules that mermaids have to follow, including never harming another mermaid, always helping a mermaid in trouble no matter what, and never interacting with humans. Breaking any one of these rules results in banishing the guilty party from their tribe. But it's never explained who came up with these rules, or why, or how they're enforced. Hopefully, it'll be explained in the sequel, which I'm now interested to read, especially considering this first installment pretty much ends in the middle of a scene with nothing resolved. So while this is certainly a very odd take on the mermaid myth, it's hooked my curiosity just enough that I want to keep going and hopefully see Luce get the happy ending she deserves.

After reading Tera Lynn Childs' mermaid series, I was expecting this to be a light, fun story about cute mermaids. Couldn't have been more wrong! Don't be fooled by the beautiful cover on this book. It is dark and sometimes disturbing. This is not a mermaid story for the sensitive readers out there. Sarah Porter took her mermaids to a whole new level in Lost Voices.Luce is only fourteen, but she has had a tough life for a girl so young. Her mom died when she was little and her father was a nomad and a thief, dragging Luce from ratty motel to ratty motel, barely letting her stay long enough to enroll in school. She didn't mind it, though. Then her father decides to move to Alaska so Luce can have a normal life and be closer to his brother. When Luce's dad's boat is lost at sea while fishing, she is left to her uncle's protection. Her uncle is a mean, abusive alcoholic, but when he goes to far and actually tries to rape her, something happens to Luce. She changes. She becomes a mermaid.Mermaids are young women who are given a second chance after being hurt and tortured by human beings. Every girl mermaid Luce meets has her own horror story of how she got there- burned alive, thrown from a moving vehicle, sold by her parents, etc. Most of the mermaids are between 5 and 16, but there are baby mermaids- babies hurt by humans who become mermaids and are stuck as babies, never growing old, unable to defend themselves. The other mermaids call them larvae and know there is no way to help them. They will never grow up and can therefore never survive in the cruel ocean. Most of them are eaten by orcas, but there are always more to replace them. The larvae are the hardest thing for Luce to accept... until she learns what the purpose of the mermaids.Mermaids sink ships. Their song is so beautiful it draws ships into the rocks and breaks them apart. People ob board are so enchanted, they leap into the water to be closer to the the mermaids, jumping to their deaths. Luce struggles with this, even though she is the second best singer and instantly propelled to Catarina's, the Queen of the tribe, second in command. As a large group of mermaids come and then one of the mermaids convince Catarina to turn a girl on a yacht, things begin to change. Catarina loses her authority to control the mermaids and only take down small ships in places where the humans won't become suspicious. Soon Anais, the girl from the yacht, is getting girls to take down boats to get jewelry and clothes and useless electronics. They are endangering the mermaid way of life, but can Luce and Catarina save the tribe before they call too much attention to themselves? This is an incredibly dark, and sometimes morbid (especially with the ever-present larvae) story. It is not for delicate readers who can't handle dark stories. The most interesting aspect of this story for me was the fact that, although vengeful, the mermaids were given a second chance at life. For Luce, it was the first time she had real friends and the first time since her father's death she felt loved. It is a beautiful idea that after so much pain, they could find peace somewhere. I also like the idea that while the other mermaids took down ships to get vengeance on evil humans, Luce couldn't bring herself to do it- she remembered that while some humans like her uncle were evil, others were good to her. It is a nice twist to the story that gives hope for people and mermaids alike.Because this story is full of some very serious and violent situations, it might be best left for an older student. I would recommend grades 10-12 unless you know a younger student who is comfortable with darker material. The book might be best used in conjunction with non-fiction material and discussions about the situations in the story that lead to the girls changing into mermaids. The book will be a great catalyst for some serious discussions on vengeance and violence.

I've always been fascinated by stories of mermaids, ever since I was a little girl. When I saw this series of books by Sarah Porter I decided to wait for all three books to be out before I 'dove' into it. With Kindle Unlimited I could read them all for free (though I bought the first one last summer as one of the kindle daily deals), so I saw it as a sign that it was time.Porter is a good writer and she definitely takes her readers into a magical world where mermaids are real. This is not a happy tale though, for the mermaids in this tale are of the darker side of the popular myth. The tribe that Luce becomes a part of are the musical beauties that happily lead boats and ships to a tragic end, showing no mercy to any human on board. Luce, so recently changed into a mermaid is still a human at heart, sees these events as barbaric, wishing that she was not a part of the murders. But this young girl is 'swimming' on a thin line, and she must choose which world she will be a part of or whether she can go it alone. The book starts out a little slow but near the end I was so engrossed that I can't help but go right to the next one, "Waking Storms".

Just finishing reading it now. It is very interesting and quick read. I have learned a lot. Our priest at church are Vincentians and shared the story of the Miraculous Medal and St. Catherine on the feast days Nov. 27 and Nov. 28. I ordered to share with my sons but am glad to have read it as well.

Easy to read - perfect for elementary school kids- but I like it for adults too.

I love this book because it really shows what the saints life was like.I also think that the book is amazing how it words are so deeply detailed.I also love the story! it made me cry a little bit. but I recommend that this is the perfect book for children like me(I'm only 11)that are in any type of religious schools.thank you for reading this post and bye!!!!

Delightful and well written as always by Ms. Windeatt - and love the drawings - one for each chapter. This is not for the youngest due to written it seems for grades 4 and up.

The Roots of Rap: 16 Bars on the 4 Pillars of Hip-Hop

From School Library Journal

K-Gr 4-Award-winners Weatherford and Morrison team up to document the history of hip-hop. The four pillars (graffiti, break dancing, rapping/MCing, and DJing) each play a role in the 16 bars that make up the book. Weatherford writes spare rhyming text, which follows hip-hop's roots in folktales and spirituals to its current status as a cornerstone of culture. The verses contain Weatherford's characteristically powerful and flawless wordsmithery: "Dropping, scratching, beat juggling/matching wax on wheels of steel." The author captures a complex art form in just a handful of short stanzas; the extensive back matter fills in any gaps. Morrison, a former dancer for the Sugar Hill Gang, has superbly captured Weatherford's narrative in his mural style and portrait-quality illustrations. New York cityscapes, the fashion styles of the previous decades, and the key figures of the genre fill each page. The artist plays with perspective and scale in such a way that each page stands out uniquely from the last. There are several pages where the text and its illustration fall on separate sides of a page break, which could be tough for read-alouds. VERDICT A winning addition to music history collections, pair with Eric Morse's and Nelson George's What is Hip-Hop? and Laban Carrick Hill's When the Beat was Born.-Clara Hendricks, Cambridge Public Library, MAα(c) Copyright 2011. The Roots of Rap, 16 Bars on the 4 Pillars of Hip-Hop is an incredible work of art with a value that far exceeds its humble price tag. Each page is a brilliant expression of the creativity and passion that is rap music and hip-hop culture. Paying tribute to poetry, street rhymes and phat beats; storytelling in its many artistic forms. From breakdancing and boom boxes, to deejays and block parties; brothers with funky-fresh rhymes and queens rocking the mic. This is an ode to hip-hop that is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced in the picture book format. The Roots of Rap opens with a note from rapper, DJ, and record producer, Swizz Beatz, encouraging readers to learn more about rap and its roots, starting with the pages of this book. Carole Boston Weatherford delivers. Her words grace this space with ease and finesse. Dropping bars so poetic that she could get down with the dopest MCs. Then there’s Frank Morrison who made this picture book feel like an art gallery had come to life in my hands! Each piece capturing the pulse of the heart of hip-hop, taking me on a trip down memory lane. Time traveling through history on turntables spinning records connecting old school with the new over bits of sampled beats, to the present day where I’m the adult now saying to my kids, “That ain’t new!”I thoroughly enjoyed this book all the way through to its end where there are author and illustrator notes, a glossary of terms used throughout, and a Hip-Hop Who’s Who. I found it noted on Amazon that this book is for ages 4-8 but I would think that the interest level will go beyond that range. It would be well suited for any elementary, middle, and high school library.

. . . I wish the volume had been longer. Natsume-Sensei's story had a better hook this time. I also enjoyed the extras, though, they came out of left field. I looking forward to more manga on kindle.

a gorgeous soft yaoi with a old playboy that finally gets played by a young pup thqt is just so cute. i loved the troubles in this one and when they finally came together it was just pure moe. wish i could have witnessed more of the prince's powers in making his partner blush but such is life. i love this author.

I think Isaku Natsume creates some of the best characters around. Great story.

I need to buy the next volume...

I love this mangas art

Great yaoi so sweet

~4/5(This is a review for the full series.)In the first volume, we get to see the beginning of Tsuda and Nakano’s relationship, after meeting again as adults at work, when they had a small fling in high school. It’s been ten years, and they’ve both mostly forgotten about it until they see each other again. Nakano is ready to put it in the past, but Tsuda wants it to happen again. In the second volume, we finally see them get together, confessing their feelings. Tsuda is easily embarrassed and doesn’t want to talk about his feelings, but he’s still hurt by what happened in high school. Nakano, on the other hand, is happy to talk about his feelings and tell Tsuda how much he wants to be with him. He also has no problem telling Tsuda how cute he is.They’re very adorable, and I love seeing them together. I wish there was more of them, really, since the second half of the book focuses on one of their co-workers. Saeki is bummed that his best friend is getting married and moving on without him. He’s surprised when his best friend’s fiancé’s son confesses his love to him. He resists at first, but Kouhei is very persistent, and he surprises Saeki a lot with his pushing. They are rather cute, but mostly I enjoy Kouhei’s audacity and honesty with his feelings, and found that quite funny.I really enjoyed this short series. The artwork is nice, and the characters are great, very easy to like. The humor is funny, and the sexy stuff is nice, though there’s not too much of it. The romances are more slow moving.I will definitely be picking up her other books released from SuBLime.[More of my reviews are available on my blog, Geeky Reading, to which there's a link on my profile.]

False Memories, Volume 2, completes Nakano and Tsuda's sweet tale and then segues into Saeki finding his own romance as well. Both stories are gentle and full of soul searching more than angst or passion. There are a few very graphic scenes at the conclusion of Nakano and Tsuda's story but it does make for a pleasant read.Story: Nakano pours his heart out to poor Saeki at a local Otaku bar, telling him about Tsuda. Tsuda, meanwhile, is searching everywhere that night trying to find Nakano, who isn't answering his calls. Calling favors from friends, Tsuda finally finds Nakano but only after Saeki sends a teasing photo of the two together. It takes a good talking together that night but Tsuda and Nakano learn to trust in each others' feelings. Saeki, meanwhile, is lonely despite having any girl he wants. When the adult son of a coworker tries to get his attention about work recommendations, Saeki blows him off. But Kouhei is persistent and for a reason - he has more on his mind than a good place to find a job.Author Natsume does a great job of giving each of the characters distinct personalities. Shy Nakano, aggressive Tsuda, playboy Saeki, and innocent Kouhei. We really care and want each of this Gundam nerds to find a soulmate within their Otaku world. Placing this with anime model builders really gives this series heart - they feel much more accessible and normal that way. Nerdy guys who love their work and are kids at heart. The feel of the series is gentle and the conclusion here for both stories is given enough time to mature but not so long that it feels bloated. It's a good conclusion that really works.Reviewed from an ARC.

Golf Annika's Way: How I Elevated My Game to Be the Best-- and How You Can Too, by Annika Sorenstam

From Booklist

Its title echoing the enduring how-to guide Golf My Way by Jack Nicklaus (1974), this instructional from Sorenstam is technically orthodox. Perhaps its prime attraction, besides the author's fame and telegenic smile, will be Sorenstam's allusions to deficiencies in her swing that she remedied en route to becoming professional golf's top female player of the past decade. She reports that in early days on tour she was unable to drive the ball far, three-putted too often, and was nervous about bunker shots. Her solutions to these common problems were to delay the uncocking of the wrists on the downswing; putt to the high side of the cup; and in the bunker, assess the lie and set up correctly--all standard-issue counsel. But if it works for Annika, why not for me, thinks the ever-optimistic weekend player, and Sorenstam's I'm-like-you attitude infuses an entirely friendly and comprehensible presentation of how to play golf. Photographic presentations of Sorenstam practicing exercising combine with asides about her personal life to create a popular golf book-- guaranteed. This is an excellent golf lesson book and I love it. It is also Annika Sorenstam's short autobiography. It introduced how she played golf and why she won LPGA tournaments so many times to golf beginners and experienced golfers as well. Compared with Jack Nicklaus's or Tom Watson's lesson books, this book is at least "par" and maybe "birdie". Her explanations about how to swing and how to handle all golf clubs are natural and pleasant. They are valuable, too. I am a man, and her lessons transcend gender. I learned from her something that I didn't learn from male golfers in the same way as she said that she learned a lot from male golfers. This Swedish woman is a true achiever and can become your good friend. Buy this book and keep it near you. It will improve your golf game, I guarantee.

This book was absolutely amazing! It is extremely helpful with all parts of the game and the golf swing technique. I got this book as a gift and it was perfect because if you want the best advice, why not get it from the best.... Annika. Annika keeps it very informative and educational, yet simple, and yet very easy to follow and effective. It has already helped me improve just in a few weeks I have seen a big difference. In addition it was really fun to read about Annika and her golf and life experiences and her mental approach to the game. She was such a great player and extremely driven and focused and willing to sacrifice and worked her rear end off to be her best. But she also seems like such a great person. Just a very nice, fun, laid back, down to earth, good sense of humor type of person. Really enjoyed this book!

Positive, well illustrated book. A lot of excellent info. I checked it out at the local library, but we refer to it so much that I bought it on Amazon. Originally checked it out for my daughter, but I read it, too. Golf isn't a separate men or women specific sport. Annika has instruction, drills and tips that wil help anyone. There is a little autobiography in the beginning of the book. My daughter, who knew very little about Annika before, has become a fan after reading her story. This section lends credibility to her teachings from my young daughters viewpoint.I have a huge library of golf literature and dvd instruction, and this book is one of my top three favorites. Annika is one of the best golfers of all time, but she is humble and practical in her teaching apporoach.

Came in on time, looked like it was brand new. I gave it as a gift to a girl named annika who plays golf and she loved it.

I was looking for god golf instruction and this is more of a biography. The instructional parts are pretty basic.

I feel this is excellent book really gives u idea how to work on ur game

like new condition. happy with purchase

I am a senior male golfer and found this book to be much more informative than those written for guys that can pound out the ball 300 yards. I still have not mastered Annika's ability to move her eyes to follow the ball after contact.
