I've read many great books about networking, PR and marketing. The problem is, they're written for people who might have excelled in an MBA program. Those of us who function in very right-brained, intuitive ways... we get excited by those books, and run out of steam almost as soon as we reach the last page.I need books that present solid networking and marketing ideas, but communicate in creative and original ways.Sure, some of the information in this book probably appears elsewhere. To me, that doesn't matter. Information that's written for management experts... I can learn from it, but it doesn't spark me into action. Not sustained action, anyway. The "Little Black Book of Connections" reminds me of things that are both "ah-HA" moments and common sense. As an artist, I just don't think in those ways without good cues.Even better, this book is presented in a whimsical, intuitive manner. I can open the book to any page, and find an idea that inspires me to improve how I interact with clients, collectors and professionals I work with. This book fills an important niche, and perhaps a large one: Those of us who need good business skills but fall asleep reading most business-related books.I like this book and I keep it within easy reach of my desk. I review it regularly. It reminds me of things that I need to do to succeed in business (and in some non-business settings)... things that don't come naturally to an artist like me.

I love the fact that I actually know how to make a connection! I'm going to implement these strategies immediately. Also, it wasn't just all about the techniques, Jeffrey implanted some new beliefs into my mind. I used to be a person that wanted to get something now I'm going to be a person who gives. A person that GIVES VALUE! From this day forward I will become more value in the marketplace. I would definitely recommend this to a friends or business partner. Thank you Jeffrey!

The book looks pretty. That is probably the best thing about the book. This book is mostly about the author congratulating himself for writing books, having an e-zine that goes to 130,000 people, and giving a lot of speeches. He says if you want to network, you should do those things too. That covers the bulk of the book.I cannot express how annoying it is to see the author tell you to go to his website a few times every chapter. Even worse, instead of saying "7 assets" or "6 points to make" he will say 6.5 or 5.5. That makes absolutely no sense. I guess that is his clever or cute attempt to remember him, but it makes him come off as a salesman trying to manipulate people into remembering him by using idiotic counting.Despite the absolutely horrible self-congratulations, advertising, and non-sensical math, the book makes a few good points he and there for beginners to networking. It is worth skimming if you can put up with all of the things I mentioned above.

For me, the need for business people to have a very definite game plan; a blueprint for success, packs the most bang for the buck. Too often, people tend to going running around trying to market themselves or a prodcut or service, but they don't really know the best way to accomplish that goal. Also helpful is the importance of getting your message across quickly and concisely. Nobody wants to listen to much of anything over 30 seconds, so the idea of keeping it short and sweet is so relevent. The author has a wonderful rapport established with the reader; his anecdotes are humorous and he just lets people know he's a nice guy willing to help. Although some of his observations are fairly pedestrian for seasoned professionals, it's not bad for a refresher course; and for the young executives, this could help launch a successful career.Overall, this is a nice resource guide to weaving your way into the often baffling approach to making the right, long lasting connections that may come in handy immediately, or perhaps several years down the road. It's certainly a modest price to pay for even one tactic that could help you land some big account, or prevent from losing one.

I rate this as Jeffrey Gitomer's best book thus far. When I opened this book, I read these words, "Everyone wants to be rich. Although most people think being rich is about having money, rich is a description for everything BUT money. Rich relationships lead to much more than money. They lead to success, fulfillment, and wealth." This grabbed my attention, because it rang true with what I already know of interpersonal relationships.Personally, I thought that Jeffrey's book "The Little Red Book of Selling," was a bit pushy, and sometimes came off as insulting and crude. I found none of that in the "Little Black Book of Connections." It's still Jeffrey Gittomer; direct, hard-hitting, and in-your-face, but in a manner I find respectful, yet humorous.I am on my third reading of this book as I write this review. I suggest a quick 1st reading, followed by a second reading with hi-liter in hand to underline what you need most, and then read it again as you need it. This is a book I refer to quite often, and have used the advice in it to improve relationships on the job, in ministry, and in casual contacts. If you think you need this book--you probably do. If you think you don't need this book--you are more than likely in DESPERATE need of it! I can't imagine anyone going wrong by adding this book to their library.

Great book by Gitomer! This is the second one of his books that I have read. I really enjoy Gitomer's writing style. He makes his books very easy to read and honestly, he cuts out all the "fluff". I have read several business and self improvement books over the years and I swear that so many of them contain so much unnecessary, repetitive bulls*#t. Most of those books could be condensed to half their size. Not the case with this book. He is a "meat and potatoes" kind of guy. He delivers the content in a direct and easy to read manner. Keep it up Gitomer! Would love to see him in person one of these days.

This book wasn't at all what I expected, but after I accepted it for what it is I really began to enjoy it.What I Didn't LikeAnother reviewer found it to be like a dictionary in its definitions and details. I found it not at all like that. In fact, it is entirely subjective even by the author's own attestation. The "color wheel" of flavors I found to be useless. The copy without a seam from the binding is not even in color. Furthermore, the typeface on that copy is so small as to be unreadable for me without a magnifying glass. Aesthetics aside, the flavor wheel seems primarily presented to demonstrate that the author can cleverly devise a circular table of food flavors. There is nothing stemming from the wheel that will help you determine which flavors go together. It's not anything like an artist's color wheel, with those associated concepts. What I Came To EnjoyThe author's rather creative idea was to compile a list of 99 foods and/or food types. The and/or is because some of the 99 are extremely well defined, such as "Lemon", while others are very general, such as "Hard Cheese". Regardless, those are how the author sees the universe of food, and as she says, it is her point of view from which she is writing.Having defined the 99 foods, she set about to locate examples of each one occurring with the other 98. To this end she seems to have spent a rather inordinate amount of time in London pubs, but there are examples from other places and even from other countries. She wasn't able to locate an example for every pair, which is not surprising, although I suppose pubs are where you might find people who would try anything once so that particular bias is explained. The sparkling thing about the book is the way in which she writes about the combinations, and the side stories that evolve from the descriptions. A description of a pair of foods might devolve into an almost totally irrelevant discussion of the old days in London pubs, or an explanation for why monks don't eat certain foods. There is some sharp, dry British humor at times, as well. It's that kind where the face is so straight that you know the speaker is either joking or insane, and either way is hysterically funny. The content and quality of what was written in the book wooed me from my attitude of bitter disappointment over what I didn't find written there. I now very much enjoy reading this book. I just don't expect it to help me choose complementary "colors" of food.I must add that the book is very well indexed. Even a stray mention of something not on her list of 99 foods, appearing in one of her side excursions, appears in the index. I very much appreciate not having to try to remember from which of the 99 foods the tangent arose, which referenced something I want to look up again.

Are you ever stuck for ideas in the kitchen? I cook fairly often and have a repertoire of dishes I know work well. After a while it gets a bit tiresome recycling the same things and then I look for inspiration. What goes with what though? Does ingredient A really go with ingredient B? Should I really do this...Well the Flavor Thesaurus is a great resource. It's not really a recipe book. There are some vague outlines but it gives a series of combinations. Combinations such as chocolate and bacon (I kid you not page 17) or orange and rhubarb, or chicken and mushroom. There's a whole bookful. Some ideas you might know, some might repulse but as a goad for innovation in the kitchen it is delightful. The book is organised into complimentary pairs gathered into chapters named Roasted, meaty, cheesy, etc.It is a book that can sit on a coffee table as an conversation starter or a book to change your life in the kitchen.

Good but no where near as good as The Flavor Bible. For me, it was just redundancy. A friend who doesn't have the Flavor Bible loves it. I advise one or the other.

I also own a similar book called The Flavor Bible, but I use The Flavor Thesaurus a lot more often. This book doesn't just suggest flavors that could be combined with one another; it describes the combined flavors in detail, gives examples of foods that combine the flavors effectively, and even occasionally provides entire recipes for foods that combine the suggested flavors. And these recipes have been, without exception, fantastic! This book is one of the most useful cooking-related books I own.

My brother and his new wife are big fans of cooking, and both of them love learning together to make new recipes and to make old recipes better, so when I saw this book, I thought they would really appreciate the help!Their number of 'experimental dishes' seems to have increased dramatically since giving them this book, and I am certain they are making good use out of it!!I even hope to purchase it for myself in the near future!!

Flavor combination is shockingly good! She also has a small appendix of suggested recipes. I found most of them to be off in terms of required quantities but you'll get the idea of where she's going. If you're a decent enough cook, you should be able to adjust recommended portions well enough to produce a great meal.

A really interesting walk down flavor complementary. These tow items share one chemical and go together. These don’t share any chemistry but work this way. Some rough recipes but not really a cook book, instead an assistant to improve any recipe that needs just a little something

This is the book you didn't know you needed!! So interesting and really exciting! The author is not only an extremely informative writer but very entertaining, as well. You have to get this book! It will excite your imagination and make you into a much more interesting cook.
