About the Author
Martin A. Frey, BSME, JD, LLM,is a Professor Emeritus at The University of Tulsa, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Senior Adjunct Settlement Judge for the United States District and Bankruptcy Courts for the Northern Districts of Oklahoma, and was the Reporter for the Civil Justice Reform Act Advisory Group for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma. He was a professor at Drake and Texas Tech Universities and a visiting professor at the University of Maine, Washington University (St. Louis), the University of Alabama, Wake Forest University, Stetson University, and Florida International University. When teaching, Professor Frey served on a number of site visitation teams for the Section on Accreditation and Admission to the Bar of the American Bar Association. Professor Frey currently volunteers with the Financial Crimes Unit of the Tulsa Police Department. He is the author or co-author of "The Little Black Book, A Do-It Yourself Guide for Law School Competitions" (Carolina Academic Press, 2002); "Alternative Methods of Dispute Resolution" (Delmar Learning Thomson, 2003); "Introduction to the Law of Contracts, 4th Edition (Delmar Cengage Learning, 2008); "Introduction to Bankruptcy Law, 6th Edition (Delmar Cengage Learning, 2013); and "Essentials of Contract Law," 2nd Edition (Cengage Learning, 2015).

This book is written in legalese. It should have been written in laymen's style so people can understand it. For example, this section, which attempts to illustrate one party (out of three) dropping out of an agreement, reads like a tongue twister:"Anthony promised Best and Century that he would discharge Best from its duty to complete the remodeling and he would pay Century what Best owed Century for the materials if Best promised to discharge Anthony from his duty to pay Best and Century promised to discharge Best from Best's duty to pay Century."There is 600 pages of this. Have fun.
I am sorely disappointed by this textbook. It is poorly written and edited. I do not feel the text is helpful in preparing me to enter the paralegal field. And I have a problem with such a poorly written textbook costing so much.After graduation I intend to seek out a better source of information on contracts.
I am currently taking this class online and find the support minimal. There are no explanations after the exercises which are throughout the chapters. The book appears on the onset to be well organised but the writing is confusing and I find myself frequently researching online through other avenues to unravel what has been written.I am attempting to find another book to supplement this so I can understand fully what they are attempting to say.
I did not care for the style of writing. I sold this one on Amazon, and bought a contract book for paralegals from Aspen Publishers.
I so wanted to like this book. This is the final class for the paralegal program I am in and since contracts are a huge portion of law I wanted to really understand it. With that being said, this book does not help. To echo other reviews, it is written in legalese. This is not even the biggest problem. As an introductory book this does nothing but repeat itself far too many times, confuse me and has far too many pages per chapter. It is too much to grasp as a paralegal student. The paragraphs read like tongue twisters. I have to read chapters numerous times to even begin grasping what the author is trying to say. Do yourself a favor and get a different book. Incredibly convoluted and unhelpful.
This is required for my contracts class. The book is very detailed, but not the easiest to read. Even my instructor, who is a lawyer who works on contracts every day, said it wasn't the best, but it is the best out of all the contract books out there.
Easy to read and understand. My rental copy had lots of highlights and on page pen markings, but that was ok. I chose to go the rental route and I would strongly encourage others to do the same. The price new is outrageous, going the rental route is a smarter way to go.
Good book explains everything in detail.
