I highly recommend this book for anyone that collects or sells Coca Cola items. Lots of color photos, prices, and info on the items, etc. This book has a lot of items that are not in the Summers Cola price guides. Overall this is a great book. It was good fortune and connections that saved him from deportation (he continued to teach during the war); death came when he was hit by a truck in May 1945. That is why Mihail Sebastian’s book - a raw record of his life and the major political events in Romania between 1935-1944 - is so important.As weeks turn to months and months turn to years, the reader witnesses the gradual introduction of anti-Jewish laws. From confiscation of their houses and their possessions, including radios, to outlawing practicing their professions. From financial penalties, to forced labour. Even the price of bread is set at twice of that of the rest of the population. Credit, where credit is due, the inventiveness of the fascist government had no bounds. In time these laws would drive Sebastian into poverty and often despair.At first he is puzzled seeing his mentor and his best friends - high calibre intellectuals - becoming infatuated with the poisonous Nazi ideology. Later, he still meets them on occasions, but finds them repugnant.Without a radio, with his only source of news the German communiques, bragging about their victories, then more and more secretive as their luck turns, all Sebastian can do is speculate. But the progrom in his own city is no speculation. Neither is the queue of Jews about to be deported - he walks past. The fear and dread that one day it might be him standing there, would never be far from his mind. And yet when a well-wisher says to him to convert to Christianity - which in those days could have made the difference between life and death - despite being a secular Jew, he refuses. That’s moral fortitude!This book is about far more than war. It is also about literature. Among them Balzac and Proust, Shakespeare and Yates and even Jane Austin. He admires them, he comments about their techniques. But I found his own struggles with writing, the ups and downs of the creative process most interesting. And so are his doubts about writing when other people are murdered. It took fifty years for this book to be published and how grateful I am that it was.I grew up in Romania during the communist times. The history we learnt was mostly about class struggle. It did not mention Jews or Holocaust.My parents who lived in Brasov - where Sebastian went sometimes to ski - told me that their house was confiscated, but not about the other struggles, or their fear that they could be deported any day. My impression was that Hungary, from where hundreds of thousands of Jews were taken to be murdered, was far worse. So I was always grateful to Romania for my parents’ lives.Sebastian’s book has affected me greatly, and this an understatement.

After finishing this book over a week ago I find it persists, stays present in my mind. I learned a lot, not specific information but rather from the immersion that I experienced while reading the journal. I was moved. First some general information about the book:The author is an unmarried Jewish writer in his 30s living in Bucharest, Romania. His journal encompasses that period when Hitler was ascendant in Germany and throughout most of the war that ensued. He wrote plays, translated literature and had written a successful novel of his own. He moved in a large circle of friends and acquaintances, some of whom were important public figures in Bucharest. He liked classical music. Poverty was always close at hand, scrambling for money to pay rent is a frequent topic in his day to day endeavors. He's also quite self-critical, does not carry his proportional share of self esteem.Starting at the beginning I read along but became somewhat disappointed. I was just not that interested in how he struggled over the specifics of the writing he was doing. Nor his descriptions of the classical music that he heard on the radio. So I jumped ahead to his 1939 year and continued till the end, December 1944. Throughout there are many people involved, lots of names to make sense of. I had limited success. On average there are probably one or two entries for a week, generally succinct and without excess baggage.His writing drew me in, Day by day he was following the events of the War in Europe, knowing that the stakes were huge. And his observations were often prescient regarding what lay ahead. Present throughout are the difficulties and indignities that he lived as a Jew in Bucharest. And fear. Week after week, year after year there was just meanness in the official edicts that were laid upon the Jews. Sebastian had friends who were both Jewish and non-Jewish, and the reader is struck at how little empathy or care is shown by the non-Jewish ones.I also came to understand how the European Jews failed to flee to foreign places when the danger was obvious and arising. Sebastian had his work and his friends and his family all living in Bucharest. And considering what was going on elsewhere in Europe it is not clear that there was any real, viable alternative. Perhaps the United States, but that was a long ways away and emigration to the US was not easy.Personally I often feel quite critical of contemporary Israel. But this reading really helps me more fully understand the origin of the mindset that endures in the European Jewish community. This book will leave its mark on you, a valuable one..

I finished reading the book 2 days ago and, because I sincerely acknowledge its valuable content, I'd like to share some thoughts before you make any commitment.I’ll divide this review in 3 parts. First, I'll write thoughts about to whom I’d recommend reading it. Then, I’ll share a brief summary from each chapter. Last, I’ll express personal thoughts and strategies to comply with the program.RECOMMENDATIONIf you haven’t had the opportunity to read any of the 2 previous Plant Paradox books yet, and would like to understand the program and hopefully give it a try, you are in the right place: this one piece will cover all. It’s a short, comprehensive, and actionable book. As Gundry says, the present book focuses on practical matters, specially for those who have a busy life and think the program is impractical.If, however, you’ve already read any of the 2 previous books and are satisfied [or perhaps not] with what you've learned, please, save your money for the upcoming book—The Longevity Paradox. In fact, since I believe it’ll be groundbreaking, I’ve already pre-ordered it. Having said that, if you’re like me, who, even after reading and researching details over again, enjoy learning new findings over time, then this book here, in fact, brings new perspectives on how to interpret previous concepts.SUMMARYIf I could summarize the book in a few words, I'd say that it’s a revised edition of the classic program, where the content is laid out in a succinct and more practical way to be implemented. In other words, I sincerely believe Gundry’s main objective here was to make it easier, walking us through the program, step by step.[Chapter 1] It’s a primer on lectins. We learn what the heck lectins are; the food sources high in lectin; the effects of consuming foods high in lectins; how lectins influence our weight; as well as the 7 deadly disruptors that damage our gut and immune system. It’s important to highlight them. He then moves gears towards the common pitfalls we habitually fall while choosing our food. Also, he shares common stores [such as Costco, Trader Joe's, Amazon, Thrive Market, Walmart] where we can purchase high-quality food without spending extra money when compared to what we’d spend following the Standard American Diet. Finally we find a description of Gundry's favorite kitchen equipments and how we can take advantage of them.[Chapter 5] Here is where we learn practical strategies to start the program, making it easy to overcome resistance such as having a family to take care, demanding work schedules, stress, and so forth. Gundry shares ways to simplify our grocery list, notes on how to be more realistic towards our goals, as well as a handful and well-explained strategies to prepare our meals by maximizing the quality and taste while saving time. Easy to prepare.PERSONAL THOUGHTSAlthough I’m fortunate to be in good health, I've been feeling better than ever after deciding to embark on Gundry's low lectin program late in 2017 after reading the main Plant Paradox book twice. I say twice because it was during the second read that I absorbed the details, and committed to try it out for the initial 6-week program. Not only my skin looks brighter, but I also have more energy during the day and my digestive system has worked smoother since I took the leap and adopted this lifestyle.At first, the program Gundry proposes looks both daunting and difficult to comply. Even though I’d been following a combination of other similar protocols during the last couple of years from figures such as Joseph Mercola, Mark Hyman, Valter Longo, Chris Kresser, and Frank Lipman, having to make only small adjustments such as removing darling foods high in lectin such as cashews, eggplants, pumpkins, tomatoes, cucumbers, and bell peppers was a difficult task. After all, Gundry added the lectin factor—a protein produced by certain plants used as a defensive strategy that can trigger a cascade of damaging effects on our health.It took me over 10 years to fully comprehend my ways to keep unnecessary inflammation away while getting more energy. That journey started most probably because I’ve been fascinated about the impact of good nutrition on physical performance and the joy of sharing meals we prepare with loved ones.I say all that because, choosing to give it a try, you will be jumping ahead decades of unbiased clinical and experimental researches. Although these experts I mentioned above are all brilliant, in my humble opinion Gundry’s program is the latest refinement.That said, I'd like to share with you a strategy to ease the transition towards any diet you intend to try. First and foremost, we could think not as a “diet” but as a “lifestyle” instead. Besides creating a healthy and positive habit, we could embrace it as part of our own personal values. It doesn’t matter exactly where we’re right now as long as we vow to move the needle towards a more meaningful lifestyle.For that, changes in our current diet can be done all at once or can be refined over time. Personally speaking, specially in terms of eating habits, I'd consider taking the time to create a strong and lasting connection with our choices—specially these days we’ve been emotionally and physically attached to food. For example, during the first week you could remove from all of your meals a group of detrimental foods such as sugar and artificial sweeteners while making sure to include at least two tablespoons of a high-quality extra virgin olive oil every day. Keep adjusting on a weekly basis while you get familiar with the program chosen until you take the leap and commit fully to the program. In this case, Gundry proposes an initial 30-day challenge. UPDATE. For two weeks now I’ve been following the main principles of Dr. Gundry’s program. Lost 6 pounds so far, and that after already being on a diet, so it wasn’t water loss. And no nagging hunger pains, either. This doctor has developed an easy-to-follow accessible style, person-to-person. His previous four books on the lectin factor and better health have laid a solid groundwork for this and coming books.RESULTS. That’s the real test of the book, isn’t it? For six months now I’ve been struggling with diverticulitis that gave me almost constant pain in my left side and sometimes in my mid-chest. My doctor referred me back to my gastroenterologist, but I’d have to wait five weeks for an appointment. What would he do? Perhaps another colonoscopy or similar exam. That sure didn’t appeal to me. I first checked out the doctor’s previous book that offers “THE PLANT PARADOX COOKBOOK: 100 delicious recipes”, as well as the principles behind them. This doctor is THE most intelligent and trustworthy doctor you can ever ask for. He knows what he’s talking about. Follow his book and live your life exactly as he states in this and all of his other books. You’ll never feel or look better and you’ll reverse disease in your body. I’m living proof!!! I am a 49 yr old female with ALS. When I don’t eat this way my symptoms get worse. When I follow his advice completely, I feel amazing and my symptoms stall. I truly believe that the way we eat dictates how long we live. If you want to feel the best you’ve ever felt and reverse disease, cancer, arthritis, diabetes, neurological diseases etc., then follow Dr. Gundry’s advice. Read his books.

More concise and easier to manage than the original book. It's life changing!

Unless one has extreme health issues this diet/way of life is very restrictive, expensive and just not practical in the real world.

Great synopsis of the first book, can read in a day so makes it easy to get on the diet. It’s changed the life of my parents myself and my wife so I’m getting this for all of my friends!

I saw an introduction to this diet in a magazine, it sounded promising, so I pre-ordered the book with great anticipation. The diet is extremely restrictive, for example a small salad for breakfast , or you can just skip breakfast. It also promotes eating a lot of avocados, which have their own toxins if you research it. You can starve yourself and lose weight without subjecting yourself to the indignity of paying this crackpot. One look at the author, and I should have realized it was a scam- he does not appear at all healthy with a ruddy bloated looking face.

I made a mistake.... the book is paperback. I wanted a book that shows all the colorful pages especially the colors of fruits and veggies and the pyramid chart.

Like, I'm so annoyed I SPENT MONEY ON THIS CONFUSING SERIES OF COMICS. Ugh, it was just; the way its paced makes you feel like you're missing a few issues, and the whole book set's up a climactic battle that ends...with deus ex machina. Seriously. It was awful. The saving grace was the amazing work, both in penciling and inking, from the various artists who worked on this boring, flawed story. Oh and like, I dunno, three or four scenes take place in Gotham? Something around that number. Do yourself a favor and if you're hellbent on getting a batman book, get something like "Hush", " The Long Halloween", or even "Batman and Son"! Which was the book before this one in this "series", which, although not amazing, was pretty good. Which reminds me, I BOUGHT THIS TO FOLLOW UP THE PLOTLINES SET UP BY THAT BOOK, AND THIS ONE DIDN'T EVEN /MENTION/ ANY OF IT!! THE SINGLE THING THAT TIES THIS " FOLLOW UP" TO BATMAN AND SON IS DAMIEN! DONT GET THIS IF YOU READ BATMAN AND SON AND WANT TO FOLLOW UP! ITS A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!

This story doesn't hold a candle to the older Demon stories. Maybe it's not supposed to: it's not about the goal of cleansing the earth, the art is disjointed, the character of Ra's seems a bit off and its focus on a relationship between Ra's and Batman is awkwardly portrayed at best.In this story Ra's disembodied spirit is looking for a host and we get the filet of his life story as the host body is being prepared for possession. My understanding was that, if the Lazarus pool failed to resurrect the body then the character would be gone. I was hoping the redirection the story titled itself after was something less literal.Now that Batman's got a son with Ra's Al Ghul's daughter, maybe the story is going to be about the Ascention of the kid to the role, or even more clever: his mother. Nah. This is a 'cult' story, a story of worship and ritual. This isn't a story of a rise to power and acceptance of the role (ala, I don't know, the Godfather, for example). Gramps want the body of the boy. And when that doesn't work out, we get the rise of zombie Ra's and soon another bodily possession of a character who was introduced just for that purpose and then to die. Meh.I've always liked the relationship Ra's and Batman: his daughter loves the 'Detective' and is regularly blinded by his own love of his daughte to the point that she thwarts his plans time and again. But that's aside the point because these relationships are really unimportant in this story: just that the boy is Batman's son. And that Robin wants to resurrect his father. Geez. Not every character born of tragedy needs to be bathed in it and ignorantly obsessed...There's no plan for world domination ... that's fine. There's no romance between Batman and Talia. Okay... There's no real character development ... Uh... The villain is a zombie. Oh.And in the end? A toast to family and nothing's changed. It's just not what I want in a story focusing on Ra's Al Ghul, let alone a crossover 'event'.I would save the money.

Batman must prevent Ra's Al Ghul's return to life through the sacrifice of his blood son Damian Wayne. Family, friendship, and morals are tested in this great adventure comib from Grant Morrison, Paul Dini, and a slew of other authors and artists. The jokes hit as hard as the action, while mysticism and magic are aplenty in this really solid book. I think you should give it a chance. It's a lot of fun!

What happens when one of Batman's most powerful enemies comes back from the dead? Nothing too good, as Batman, Robin, and Nightwing and are about to find out in The Resurrection of Ra's Al Ghul. The story picks up with Damian, the son of Bruce Wayne and Talia Al Ghul, seeking Batman for help when his grandfather returns from the grave to use him for a new body. Soon enough, Batman is on the scene, as Robin struggles with playing second fiddle to Damian, and Nightwing gets thrown into the mix as well. The Resurrection of Ra's Al Ghul is pretty much a crossover of a number of Batbooks, and feature contributions from writers including Grant Morrison, Paul Dini, Peter Milligan, Keith Champagne, and Fabian Nicieza; and artists including Tony Daniel, David Lopez, Jason Pearson, Freddie E. Williams II, Don Kramer, and Ryan Benjamin among others. The biggest problem with this hardcover collection is that a majority of the book just feels uneven and disjointed thanks to having so much talent on board throughout so many books. The brilliance of Grant Morrison's run on Batman in particular gets lost in all of this, but for the most part, The Resurrection of Ra's Al Ghul manages to be pretty entertaining regardless. Still though, it just seems that the story as a whole could have been much better too. Flaws aside though, The Resurrection of Ra's Al Ghul is a decent and entertaining Batman saga that you will get some enjoyment out of, but if you're looking for some Batman stories that really prove memorable, just stick with Grant Morrison's current run.

But not satisfying either. Ra's Al Guhl returns...He and Nathan's family fight, Talks carried Damien away and our heroes take off in the Batjet and by the way it's Christmas...I do hope this continued and will contain a more mature writer... This is like a sitcom or video game. Needs depth. Batman and company are DEEP

The story about Ra's Al Ghul rescurrecting and Thalia's involvement in the story are good. However the scriptwriter has included almost non-stop action in the comic. Batman and comrades are fighting ninjas and other baddies almost 90% of the time. This non-stop action makes the novel tiring to read.

I got Batman & Son, The Resurrection of Ra's Al Ghul and The Black Glove in order to understand Batman RIP. I found Resurrection quite bad because things happened "just because". I mean, this is just like a silver age comic, no grounds. Ra's second coming was SO damn easy that makes the tale a real lay down. The action parts of the book were good though and it was nice to have Robin and Nightwing on the team again. Still the book is no big deal, but it will help you to learn 1 or 2 things about RIP. My recomendation: Let a friend get it and then ask it borrowed.

About the Author

Kathleen R. Tusaie, PhD, PMHCNS/NP-BC, is a professor at the University of Akron and has been in private practice since 1988. Dr. Tusaie is certified as a psychiatric-mental health clinical nurse specialist and psychiatric nurse practitioner by the American Nurse Credentialing Center. She holds certificates in advanced pharmacology, multicultural nursing, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), psychoneuroimumunology, brief psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), clinical hypnosis, and Bowen family therapy. In addition to the University of Akron, she has taught at the University of Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania State University School of Nursing. Her research has focused on the concept of resilience and she has published and presented internationally. Dr. Tusaie has been the principal investigator or co-principal investigator in five funded research projects and has received many awards and honors.
