I actually was very disappointed with this book at first (the reason for 4 stars instead of 5), because I had heard so many good things about this book, only to find that it's not really a book of Mandalas. What a huge disappointment!I will say that if you don't have your heart set on coloring Mandalas, but some really nice designs, you will probably love this book.

I LOVE this book! The mandalas are different and really fun to color, and the ones with the black backgrounds are totally awesome and look great when they're colored. And even the backs of the black background pages are black.

Love this book as well as the others by Jennifer Zimmermann. They are challenging, unique and fun

My favorite thing about this book is the wonderful images that are included on both a white and black background. This really changes the appearance of the same image. Since there are so many possible color combinations with each picture, they will be colored multiple times.

I bought two copies "new" my rating is for the condition of one of these copies - stains on nearly every page, one page heavily soiled, back cover heavily soiled. The other copy was in perfect condition so hopefully this was a fluke deal and not something that happens with any frequency? Condition aside, LOVE the book, I purchased it to accompany nutrition lessons.

Average only because it wasn't the exact book (poetry etc) that I used to read my children and students. I only wanted the one I remembered. This was similar, but not the same, even tho the name was the same.Nothing was actually wrong with the book, just not what I was looking for.

Not as spectacular as previous reviews led me to believe, especially for the price, but a good message to send to young kids. If we weren't an already active family, I may have thought it's content more valuable.

I am a PE & Health teacher. My students love to have this book read to them, or to read it themselves when possible. The book is fact based, but written in a way children can understand. This makes it easy to re-visit the book, or pages of the book, to review facts.

Great book

I think the concept of the book and its intent are great. Kids learn from the stuff they see on the screen and in books, so what better way to convey the message of health and what makes our bodies strong.So I have to ask, what in the heck was the author thinking by having the kid sitting on the bench with his headphones on eating a bag of CHIPS on not 1, but 3 pages in the book. Seriously? I was hoping there would be some kind of statement made on how that wasn't a great choice (and it does later touch on good nutrition) but it never does go back and point out the poor choice.Otherwise this would be a 5 star rating. Still good, but not great.

What a super book. It is kid friendly and makes learning about our bodies fun. The pictures and wording are both age appropriate. My grandsons (ages 3 & $) are both gaining from the book and love to see what happens to their food. It also has a great message to keep your body moving (that thing called exercise). Kudos to the author!

I like this book because of its pictures It let children know that health is so important. As a school nurse, it has got a lot of attention.

This is our faMILY's favorite table top read during Christmas time. Especially with all the cheesy over-sentimental people always saying "Oh, I love Christmas, Christmas this, Christmas that..." Just read a few lines from this book and give them a little Vonnegut-esque perspective.

I gave to my guy friends - they think it's tops. Appeals to their sarcastic sid and for them, it puts more glitter on the Christmas tree.

There are a few inappropriate pieces in here, but all in all, we laughed until we cried. I LOVED the snark! If You don't have a slightly twisted, snarky and sarcastic sense of humor, you probably won't like this.

If you are a true believer who unabashedly loves the holiday season, this isn't the book for you. It's also not a good book for young children due to some off-color humor.But if you, like me, secretly nurture an inner Grinch, if you suspect Scrooge reverted back to his old ways before the ink dried on his tax deductions, then read on. SNARK! THE HERALD ANGELS SING may be just the thing you need to survive the holidays.This book is easy on the eyes with lots of white space, black and red print, and clever sketches that evoke Victorian days. Offering include short essays about every aspect of the holiday season, quotations, lists (e.g., "Hanukkah Books You'll Never See"), random facts, and jokes (you'll remember one in particular every time you say an angel on a Christmas tree).Although I groaned a few times while reading it, I laughed out loud at least as often. Just be warned: SNARK! respects no sacred cows and takes no prisoners. Some of the humor goes a little too far, but most of it hits the bulls eye.I found this book an enjoyable read and a perfect antidote to the Hallmark Channel's month-long stream of unrelentingly sappy holiday fare. It goes especially well with a good, stiff drink.

Ms. Davis recommends many sound therapies. One such therapy she recommended was BioAcoustics. She claimed that it could treat all sorts of ailments. I tried it & it nearly killed me. I am alive today only because I spend about $10,000 a year in special treatments. My life is no longer normal just because I took ms. Davis' advice & tried BioAcoustics.

Sound Bodies through Sound Therapy is a fascinating and educational read written by an author who is well qualified to write a book about the differences between various sound therapies. Author Dorinne S. Davis, MA, CCC-A, FAAA, has over 35 years as an educational and rehabilitative audiologist and certainly has the credentialsThe first four chapters of this book contain detailed information about the physics of sound, the body's reaction to sound, the auditory system and processes of this system. Factual and well written, this intricate information is presented in terms a layperson can easily understand.Chapters five through seven introduce readers to the various methods of sound therapy, their creators, methods and case studies supporting the techniques.Chapter eight describes the powers and uses of the voice. This chapter offers medically based, but an understandable introduction to the physiological functioning of the voice. This is an educational as well as interesting chapter. Chapter nine discusses BioAcoustics, an explanation of, "This Signature Sound," of an individual and how our unique vocal frequencies affect us.Chapter ten ties the various therapies and the physiology of our bodies together and how, "All of the physiological processes in the body are interlinked by a large number of interacting and crisscrossing pathways." Or, the how and why sound therapies and how they may stimulate the voice-ear-brain connections. Chapter 11 relates real-life success stories of sound therapies.Although this book is a little off the beaten track and may be seen as interest to people involved in the field of medicine only, I found the book worthy of my reading/leisure time. Most certainly, Sound Bodies through Sound Therapy will be of interest to any parent who has a child with symptoms or a diagnosis of autism, apraxia, ADD.ADHD, dyslexia, hyperlexia, Central Auditory Processing Disorder or learning disorders.

My child was displaying some of the problems mentioned on the AIT website. Further research took me to this book. I learned a lot from reading it, and so would recommend it to those who have children (or self) struggling with auditory issues, however, do not expect it to tell you which auditory program will work best for your child. The author believes that she must test each individual, before making that decision. Where I do not doubt that this is the case, I am used to being able to do enough research to make good decisions. We went ahead and did the AIT with our child, with great results. The book did let us know that only about 4% have a negative reaction if AIT is completed when they should not have it done. We thought these were good enough odds to go ahead with the program.

This book as a MUST READ for any parent considering the use of sound interventions for a special needs child. Dorinne Davis' "Tree of Sound Enhancement Theory" is extremely helpful as basic concept to assist any parent through the many options of sound interventions currently available.Of great importance are her findings through many years of research that Auditory Integration Training (Berard AIT) is a key beginning therapy that paves the way for recovery and improvements for special needs child and adults with hypersensitive hearing, sound sensitivities, auditory processing disorders and many other types of learning disabilities.This is a thorough, detailed and fascinating book that educates and inspires the reader to consider sound as a non-invasive, safe, drug-free alternative to making sweeping life changes for special needs children and adults.

Chaos: Making a New Science by James Gleick is the story of how chaos theory was popularized in different fields of study.In Chaos, Gleick looks at how the science of chaos was developed. It's pretty interesting to follow how researchers in different fields somehow discovers how the theory is not as it seems. How simple systems are not just simple systems but can evolve into complex systems. And how these researchers through their curiosity and open-mindedness were able to see that perhaps there's a new paradigm and a new theory to be discovered.Unfortunately I don't think this book is very well written. The purpose and point of the book is quite hard to see. Does Gleick want to tell us about chaos? In that case the explanations are few and far between and when an explanation of chaos is attempted, it doesn't quite adequately explain it. Perhaps this is more to tell the human side of chaos? How recognition might not always come but the pursuit of truth is more important. In this case I am unconvinced as the structure doesn't allow that to come across. The book seems to be more about individuals and looks to be split up into small autobiographies. Finishing this book, I'm not really sure what it was I was supposed to get out of it. The most interesting point for me was how Kuhn's theory of scientific revolutions was exemplified but other than this I don't feel like I got anything else out of the book.This is then not a book about chaos theory. It's more a collection of stories of the people who helped bring about chaos theory and their struggles in doing so.

This book describes the beginnings of an important theory that explains many patterns and behaviors observed in nature that are not usually discussed in traditional science classes even to this day. It's not an easy read but the book's content is well worth the effort especially to those interested in science and how nature "works".I believe this book will be most rewarding to readers with knowledge of science at high-school & college levels, in particular readers that understand how equations/math are used in sciences to describe and predict the behavior of various systems/objects.3-stars for the prose. Gleick's writing doesn't flow and is often hard to follow. I can't say it was enjoyable read, most of the time I felt that I had to "extract" what he is trying to say by rereading certain sections.5-stars for the content, breadth, and depth. Gleick casts a wide net in describing how pieces of Chaos theory emerged from several scientific fields. He did a phenomenal job in researching the topic and immersing himself in technical details.Several keywords to take away from this book are : Chaotic systems, Fractals and Self-Similar patterns, Butterfly effect, Nonlinear systems,Dynamic systems, Bifurcating systems, Attractor. One example of how fractals appear in landscapes: [...].Chaos theory spawned several new subfields broadly can be labelled as Emergent Complexity.

This book was not bad and it tought me a thing or two, but I would have liked more math. It's 75% about 'the who's who on campus', I mean the history of scientists and their discoveries.

Very readable introduction to the field, an excellent popular account. I had read Mandelbrodt's classic on fractals when it appeared, but had not followed on developments.In this book, I liked the story-telling and didactic explanations. Should be a nice gift for youngsters interested in math or physics. A bit more explicit math would have been helpful; sometimes the author bends over backwards to avoid even simple formulae or equations, which might have been easier to understand for readers with college math than verbal explanations.I got interested and probably will follow on with more advanced material.The book may be a bit dated now, but not being an expert, I find it hard to point out specific items that should be added or updated. I am sure that a lot of things have happened after the book was published. I would also have appreciated a longer list of citations of the original publications.

an amaizng book. even for a non-science person like me, it was a great read. glecik has made the language so simple that i found each and every page interesting and understandable. this rates as one of the best books i have ever read in my iife. i have understood now the fact that most of the life we have lead or are leading, has to have a component of chaos in it, and it is alright not to fret over it.

Great read on the history of the emerging field of chaos theory as a loose multi-disciplinary field applicable to almost every discipline and yet adopted by no discipline as its own. The pioneers are as varied, free-thinking, maverick, and ostracized as the discipline itself. Approach this book from the standpoint of 'history of chaos science' rather than 'technical introduction to chaos theory,' as the work doesn't quite take upon itself to teach the reader the rigorous field of chaos theory even at an introductory level. It is a book for the lover of science for science sake and a qualitative introduction to chaos at that.

I'm amazed that art books and even books solely devoted to perspective drawing are more about perspective theory, but not the practical function and set up for this aspect of architectural drawing. This is a good one.

This book is a good book to have in a personal library. It is especially good for artist. John Montaque covers everything about perspective an artist could want. I think It is clear and complete in explanation. Certainly would recommend it for anyone who wants to understand how perspective works.

I was really excited to read this book after reading Zoo Nebraska, but was overwhelmingly disappointed. While the author's love for the animals that lived at Zoo Nebraska is clear, I don't think anyone did a basic proofread of any of this book. There are random question marks in places that could not conceivably need question marks. There are no commas where there should be commas and commas in places that definitely don't need commas. There are multiple sentences that have words in the wrong tense or just random words that seem to be left over from a previous version of the sentence. I have never written a review of a book on Amazon before but had to write this one to save others from this rambling, mistake-riddled nightmare.

To say this book is wonderfully written would be an understatement. It is powerful as the authorâ€™s emotions punch though almost every page. Reuben, a long term captive chimpanzeeâ€™s animal rights were violated for years before even the basics of animal companionship were provided.This is an animal story with some very strong differences. There are fantastic examples of chimpanzee interactions and stunning examples of human and chimpanzee bonds. There is love, joy, hope and despair. However, it is one true story where evil does triumph over good...but hey this is the 21st Century.The ending is harsh, horridly sad and so wrong. The most deplorable event is that many of the innocent are killed in the most dreadful of ways. But yet the Jensen family who put this American tragedy in motion were never committed to an asylum.Iâ€™m waiting for the movie.

A poorly written book that appears to be fueled by her personal gripes, or grudges against the Nebraska town that deported her & her husband back to British Columbia Canada . I was surprised to read her written admission to criminal activity in the book, because I had heard previously of the Bakken's exploits while they worked in America. I had bought the book as a heart touching animal story, but found it to be propaganda material to try to justify their poor Zoo practices, and greed motivated activity. I probably won't be buy this authors material again.

A beautifully told story that attests to the unfortunate nature of how animals are often treated as commodities in our society.

The sensitivity and insight with which this book was written is amazing. The story is often sad and sometimes funny, however, I'm sure very truthful!

i bought this book for dementia patients at an assisted living facility. we sang and sang and sang. the residents don't remember alot of things. but they remembered virtually all of the songs. we had residents i have never seen smile, smiling at the singing. this book brought so much happiness to people searching for happiness, that i can pretty much say, buying this book was the best money i ever spent

The arrangements in this book are really great. I am an intermediate player, and I am able to sight read these songs with just a few errors. With a few run-throughs, I should be quite competent. But even though the arrangements are simple, just the right chords have been selected, that still produce a nice overall song. I don't know how to explain it better, but I'm sure most players have purchased some sheet music and then when the time came to play it, it just never sounded great, even if you were playing it exactly as written. Maybe the arranger decided to get fancy on a few chords (to the point where you do a double check and make sure you didn't miss a note, and then wonder whether or not it might be a typo), or maybe they simplified it too much. This book is the complete opposite- it has just the notes you need to capture the essence of each song, and nothing you don't. I have more use for some sections of the book than others (I have a 2 year old, so I'm already getting pretty good at the children's songs, and I anticipate the patriotic and holiday songs will also be in heavy rotation), but they have made some nice, general selections that will appeal to a wide audience. If you have a crowd who wants to gather around the piano and sing, you will get pretty far with this one book. I would recommend this for any piano library.

This is the about the best Piano music song book value you will ever find. It is packed with approx 140 songs and is spiral bound, which makes it easy to place on the piano and turn pages. It is a high quality book and contains the words and a little bit of history about each song. The arrangements are perfect for the intermediate player with a bit of a challenge. The only (small) complaint I would have it that it does not contain a table of contents of the songs, only the general classification of each set (American Patriotic Songs, Children's Songs, Film & Show Tunes, etc)

I wanted something that I could sit down and play for kids to sing along with that I could easily just sight read. This is perfect. Great binding and pretty graphics are a bonus. I love that it's organized by category too, not alphabetically or randomly like some other's I've seen.

I bought this book in order to play songs on the piano with my grand children. The songs are traditionaland popular songs for all ages. They include patriotic, jazz, folk, children melodies, and Christmas songs, to name a few,They are fun to play and well written. I recommend this music song book for fun gatherings with family and friends.

This treasury is exactly what I was looking for when I began searching for an accompaniment sing a long book to use with my kids. It has almost every song I wanted, and plenty more I wouldn't have even thought of.The book itself is high quality - heavy card stock pages, spiral bound, beautiful pictures and clear typeset. The arrangements are easy to read and the lyrics are a decent size for most eyes. Each song has a paragraph of history/explanation at the top and these are filled with gems in and of themselves.The quality of the musical arrangements is also top notch - they are simple enough for most pianists to play without much rehearsal (early intermediate in difficulty) but written in such a way that the greater mood of the song is really captured. The harmonies are well selected to deliver maximum musical impact with minimal difficulty. Almost all of these songs are set in very easy keys as well, which is a bonus for sight reading without much preparation.My only criticisms, and they are small, are that there are no suggested fingerings on any of these pieces and that some verses are missing from a few of the songs. With the fingerings, it would do any pianist well to go through the songs before playing and write in a few - a lack of fingerings can unnecessarily stumble sight readers. With the missing verses, all the most popular refrains are represented and most pieces are complete as written (to the best of my knowledge) so this quibble is minor. If I really want the fifth verse of random-patriotic-anthem, I can pull it up on Google easily enough and just play another repeat of the score.For families who want to spend some time singing old favorites together, to charity playing in nursing homes or even as a supplement to a homeschool unit on a historical event, "The Great Family Songbook" is a phenomenal addition to any sheet music library. Our family will be enjoying this for many years to come!

lots of songs everyone knows...as it says. The arrangements are "easy piano" (not big note) trending towards intermediate. If you have to have one book to take to camp or something, this is probably a good one. I am using it at Nursing homes, and i am thinking about donating one to the home so it is there if someone who is staying at the home knows how to play piano and does not have sheet music, because it is a good pickup.The back has a section called "Guitar Instructional Tips: How to Use This Book, which contains information about strumming, single note and chord playing, expanding the thumb-index pattern, arpeggios, and Travis pickingContents just has the sections, though, you have to go to the index to find individual songs, and it is a long index, as it also includes composer information.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book. Great songs. I find the songs fun and easy to play on piano. I really enjoy the illustrations. Very well done. So happy I found this book. And bonus, it is spiral bound. Great fun for keyboard too.
