This book is ok. It doesn't include Nicaragua or else it could be 4 stars. Nica has similar wildlife to Costa Rica and is growing in Eco tourism. Adding a few more pages about Nica's national parks and reserves would have made it complete. Maybe in future editions?? It's unlikely you'll see most of the difficult to spot mammals in the book and if you're into birding it's really lacking on variety of species. If you're birding in Panama or CR there are more complete guides.

I brought this book along with me to Central America and am glad that I did. It's a great little book, with detailed information on different species of wildlife found in Central America, where they are most likely to be seen, and so on. There is also detailed information on different parks to visit and what you may see there.I used this book along with Central America on a Shoestring by Lonely Planet. You might just buy the book to help plan your trip, or to bring along with you as well. I found that the Watching Wildlife guidebook had a lot of extra information on parks and wildlife not included in the Shoestring guide, so was glad I had it with me. You might find more detailed information on parks in other guidebooks, so I would consider my interests and a guidebook's coverage of parks and wildlife in deciding whether to bring this book in addition to another general guidebook. The book is a tad bit heavier than you might expect, perhaps because of lots of glossy photos. On the other hand, this book can help you identify many animals you may see, and because it includes natural history information on different species, it can serve as a travel guide and natural history guide in one.

Lovely book, fabulous photos, really a fun read during two weeks in Central America.

Traditional Work: How you work is probably how you worked.When I looked at that line in my notebook (after reading Daniel Markowitz's book, A Factory of One) I thought about the busy-ness that many people talk about as they relate to their workday. As you consider what you get done in a typical 8 or 10 or 15-hour shift, do you stop to consider HOW you get that work done?Over the 145 pages of this well-written - and well-documented - book Dan shows very specific methods you can use to apply "Lean Principles" (traditionally reserved for manufacturing and production lines to remove wasted movements thereby increasing overall productivity) to the "Knowledge Work" that keeps so many of us busy and focused on working overtime.I was pleased to see Dan write about Parkinson's Law of work: Namely, that the work you have will generally fill the time you have available to do that work. If something is due in a week, it'll take about a week. If it's due later today, well you get the point.The point of applying Lean Principles to improve personal performance is two-fold:1. Create a flow of working: so that once you get there, you stay there and produce something (a thought, a product, etc) of value2. Reduce the stress of wasted movements to focus on more meaningful activityIf you're thinking of getting this book, here's just one of the themes you can expect to explore while you're reading:Dan asks you to define your "value;" the value of your service or product to the market. Once you've identified that value, then you can work on making things as efficient as possible in order to make that value available to those that matter: clients, community, organization, family, friends, etc. Oh, it might be helpful to know how Dan defines value. I'm walking away with three indicators:What does the customer pay for?What are you doing to transform the product or the service?What activity seems to be done "correctly?"Of course, you'll walk away from reading this with your own ideas of what "value" means to you, your business, your work. This book is a good contribution to the genre of books on personal productivity and efficiency. What makes it unique is how author Dan Markovitz combines concepts from the "lean" management literature (such as James Womack and Daniel Jones's book Lean Thinking, which Markovitz cites repeatedly, and John Shook's Managing to Learn) with familiar concepts from the personal productivity literature (such as Kerry Gleeson's Personal Efficiency Program and David Allen's Getting Things Done, neither of which I can find cited in Markovitz's book but from which he has apparently borrowed quite a lot). Then there are a few excellent concepts that seem to be Markovitz's own invention, such as "living in the calendar" and "calendar as kanban."A few reviewers have complained that Markovitz simply repeats what other writers such as Gleeson or Allen have already said, but that complaint overlooks what is unique about this book, namely its combination of two previously separate genres: lean management and personal productivity. Certainly readers who have read other books in either of these two genres will find some familiar concepts in this book, but the way Markovitz combines the two genres is original and not merely derivative.In particular, what distinguishes this book from productivity books by the likes of Gleeson or Allen is this book's relentless focus on customer value. This book does not preach efficiency for the sake of efficiency or only for your own peace of mind (as valuable as that may be); it preaches efficiency for the sake of your customer or client. Ok, I confess; I am addicted! Sherryl Woods created such great characters for her Sweet Magnolia series that as son as I finish one volume, I rush to read the next. There are still some organizational challenges for me as a reader: her jumps from one character and issue in one paragraph to another character and issue in another is always disconcerting. However, woods' strength comes from the broad sweep of characters with whom she people's the town of Serenity. With overlapping stories, and for the most part, their continued presence in subsequent volumes, the main characters, the two generations of Sweet Magnolias, and other peripheral characters, Woods really facilitates the readers' connection to, and identification with the residents of Serenity. Her books are similar to soap operas which allow such intimacy with the characters that you cannot give up the fascination with what is going to happen next and to whom. This volume is particularly satisfying as there is adequate closure for all the main characters as well as much-needed references to answer questions about previously featured characters. I do recommend this series although I give fair warning that you will get hooked, just as I am!

I am enjoying all of the Chesapeake Shores series books. Each character has a unique personality and each book in the series focuses on a different character...their everyday problems and happiness. One family and their grown children facing true to life situations. And they find themselves "meddleing" into one anothers business...but out of love and concern. Sex is there but in a tasteful way. The Sweet Magnolia series is wonderful, also. I like the way Ms. Woods writes...she brings a story to life. If you have read Debbie Macomber, Sheila Roberts or RayAnne Thayne books you will love these!

I love books that are in a series and Sherryl Woods really does them well. In my opinion, the Sweet Magnolias series is one of the best! She deals with timely topics and this one is no different, as it deals with domestic violence and the effect it can have on the abused! In this case because of the abuse, Raylene, the protagonist of this story, has become afraid to leave the house of her best HS friend. This story follows her struggle to overcome her Agoraphobia to become free and unafraid. I believe that Woods handled the topic well with well developed characters and a wonderful story line!

I'm glad the author did a book focusing on the parents Mick & Megan but for me it dragged and dragged. We saw a peek of what I think the next book will be about Connor and Heather but I have to be honest I sooooo hope the story line for these two do not continue in the same way it was in this book. This book covered a lot of info about Connor and quite frankly I wasn't impressed. I really don't want to read more about his and Heather's stubbornness.

I have read all the books in this series and have enjoyed them very much. Sherryl Woods does a great job of developing her characters and by the end of her books, I often feel as satisfied as if I have eaten an exquisite meal. However, this book - completing the story of Megan and Mick - seemed rushed and way too predictable. I finished the book in record time, which led me to believe that it was shorter than the other books. Although I read the Kindle version (LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Kindle, but that's a review for a different time) I checked the paperback edition which came in at 288 pages, I then checked the rest of the series which came in at 400 pages. Anyway, I do recommend this book if you have read the others, just don't set your expectations too high. If you haven't read any books in the series, start with the first one, The Inn At Eagle Point. You won't be disappointed.

The O'Briens of Chesapeake Shores are a very complex family. There is always something happening and siblings get mad at each other and then others try to smooth things out. This series could go on forever .. The family dynamics hold thereafter .. just wondering what else can happen to this family??

Woods really miss the boat on this. I could not feel the chemistry between the characters—Mick and Megan—who were previously married and created a family. I wanted so badly to love this book after reading The Inn at Eagle Point. But this didn't do it at all. The author has them kiss occasionally and wake up out of the same bed. Seriously? She could have done so much more from the chemistry and passion standpoint. It was a struggle to finish this novel, sorry to admit. She'd have done well to beef up the romance and add more of the Chesapeake maritime and nautical season during the holidays.

I chose this rating because of her ability to make each character come alive individually and yet pull them all together through an engaging story of family , and the complexities of how they relate to each other .I enjoyed the light romance that never overshadowed the direction of the storyline. It was a fun escape into the Chesapeake town, as your pulled into the lives of those who live there.

I have been making wet plate positives and negatives now for three years and this is a book that I keep with me at all times. In the field, it's a great quick reference to make sure I have it right. Highly recommended as well as Quinn's other book.

Excellent resource for making wet plate negatives and contact prints. It's become my guide for mixing chemistry and processing my photographs. Quinn's style is easy to follow and I appreciate the relevant links to historical techniques.

Difficult to read fine print. Very short -- not really a book. Not what I had expected.

Quinn is a well known and accomplished wet plate collodion photographer and teacher. I have a copy of his first book on making wet plate positives (now in reprint on Amazon) and figured this would be a great learning resource for making collodion negatives, and salt & albumen prints.The book feels like it is a companion to his collodion negative workshop (which I haven't taken), and seems like there is missing information at times. The printing section starts off with Making Salt Paper where it tells how the salt the paper, but says nothing about coating it with silver nitrate to sensitize it.I'm interested in salt printing and I was hoping for a bit more indepth info on this, not to mention complete info. The albumen sections seem out of order and again missing info on sensitizing the paper. The "Making Albumen" section seems like it is blending the how-to for both making the albumen, as well as making the paper sections, and then is followed by the list of chemicals and other needed items. And again, the sensitizing the paper section lacks detail on how to actually sensitize the paper.The collodio-chloride section says it is by Mark Osterman. The Toning section says it is an excerpt from James M Reilly's "The Albumen and Salted Paper Book" (still in print, 142 pages and less expensive than Quinn's book.) And the last ten pages of the book are copied from a 1935 Kodak publication on making collodion negatives. I guess I'm confused how nearly half of the content in this book is attributed to other authors?The info on making wet collodion negatives may be the only useful part for me. But at $45 for the book, I'm sure this info could be found on the web or in other free PDF copies of historic photo books like Silver Sunbeam.Had I not gotten this book as a gift, I unfortunately would've sent it back and bought something more useful. I really expected much more from an internationally known authority on wet plate photography.

The book showed up a little more worn than i thought it would be, but it showed up on time and got the job done.

Rick and Suzie Graetz have given us an excellent book. At our house, we keep it where it is readily available to our guests. The sections are short and self-contained. It is the perfect thing if a person only wants to read for a few minutes. An example is the two pages on the Bannack-Corrine Freight Road used to bring supplies to the gold camps at Bannack and Virginia City. For a longer read before bedtime, a person might want the six pages covering a number of old trails, or the thirty-one pages describing the Yellowstone River. Native Montanans and out-of-state visitors alike appear to thoroughly enjoy the book. My wife and I use it as a starting point when we want to explore a new part of Montana. In additions to trails and rivers, there is information on Montana history, writers, scenery, towns, mountains, national parks, and a multitude of other subjects. The book may be largely a compilation of text from the many photographic essays that Rick and Susie Graetz have published over the years. However, the photographic books are very good, and so is "This is Montana, Vol. I." Personally, I am getting tired of asking book dealers when Vol. II will arrive; but I will buy multiple copies whenever it becomes available. Instead of looked upon with scorn as the are in other fantasy novels. In fact they are called Bands and are structured kind of like modern rock bands. With the leader of each individual group called the frontman and have five to seven members with at least one magic user/wizard. And the groups names often take their inspiration from classic rock tunes. When they are hired for a job called it's a "gig" by an agent called a "booker." Active groups are said to be Touring. Along the way, author manages to skewer fantasy tropes like trolls, orcs dragons, other magical creatures too numerous to mention, and the excesses of classic rock group stereotypes, like sex, drugs, alcohol, and the occasional random property damage. The book follows the exploits of Saga a former top merc band with a rep among the public and their peers like the Stones or The Beetles. They get back together for one last gig of a personal nature to rescue the estranged daughter of the groups frontman from a city under siege from a demonic horde incited by an old enemy.This is a darkly funny tale with plenty of twists, turns, narrow escapes, and outrageous action adventure. You find yourself laughing out loud and at times choked up by the raw emotion of these life long friends coming back together for one last time to save the day.

If looking for positive and negative feedback on this book don't read any further, there is nothing; not a word, situation, resolution, description, I would change, nothing.On its face a simple story - a man asking his old friends to help save his daughter from what they all know, is an impossible situation.And it remains a simple story.A funny, sad; sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes uplifting story where hard men demonstrate simple acts of humanity that convey more compassion than paragraphs of flowery language. I didn't need a thesaurus next to my bedside to read this book, and when you might, the author made fun of himself.Don't let this review confuse you, this is a band of fat, old, drunk, womanizing mercenaries- who just happened to live long enough to make a choice of who and what they want to be when the grow up, when glory isn't enough..I would recommend this book to anyone I know.Edit: Ok I lied The one thing I would change would be adding a chapter for the antagonists. The bones of his motivation are there but some flesh, his conflict, the compromises he needed to make - what he lost to assemble his mosh pit.

So, Kings of the Wyld.. Where to start?I suppose I will start by saying that this is the first book I felt compelled to write a review for. Not that I haven't read many good books; I have. Not that this book is in dire need of more champions; It isn't. But for a plethora of reasons that you will soon find out, should you pick up a copy and read it.I had heard good things about this book all over the internet but mostly from the Fantasy-Faction Facebook group.While all the praise certainly buoyed my confidence in my purchase, while browsing in the bookstore it was the amazing Richard Anderson cover that snapped the money out of my wallet and slapped it onto the counter at check-out.It was said to be a fun, fun book. A book with great action scenes and better characters. One that took inspiration (and attitude) from the author's newfound love of classic rock. Bands like RUSH, Led Zeppelin, The Who and Neil Young were an inspiration. It was said to have moments of great sadness and beauty. Maybe most of all, it was said to be a book that had an awful lot of heart.I am here to reassure you that it is all of those things, yet so much more.In a genre (mostly) stuck in the age of grimdark, KotW is a sweeping, veritable hurricane of crisp, wondrous fresh air.I love this book. I can tell you without doubt, that I will be enjoying it for years to come.I would recommend it to anyone with even a passing interest in fantasy. I would urge it upon the fantasy fanatic. I will be buying a second copy for my shelf and lending the one I read to any friends whose mouths I can manage to pry open and force it down. The thing is though, I doubt I will need to. I have a good feeling that they will willingly gobble it down in a few large bites and enjoy it (almost) as much as I did.Buy this book.-SPOILERS BELOW-......................RIP Dane and Gregor. I will forever remember your childlike wonder and your beautiful heart.
