i bought this book for dementia patients at an assisted living facility. we sang and sang and sang. the residents don't remember alot of things. but they remembered virtually all of the songs. we had residents i have never seen smile, smiling at the singing. this book brought so much happiness to people searching for happiness, that i can pretty much say, buying this book was the best money i ever spent

The arrangements in this book are really great. I am an intermediate player, and I am able to sight read these songs with just a few errors. With a few run-throughs, I should be quite competent. But even though the arrangements are simple, just the right chords have been selected, that still produce a nice overall song. I don't know how to explain it better, but I'm sure most players have purchased some sheet music and then when the time came to play it, it just never sounded great, even if you were playing it exactly as written. Maybe the arranger decided to get fancy on a few chords (to the point where you do a double check and make sure you didn't miss a note, and then wonder whether or not it might be a typo), or maybe they simplified it too much. This book is the complete opposite- it has just the notes you need to capture the essence of each song, and nothing you don't. I have more use for some sections of the book than others (I have a 2 year old, so I'm already getting pretty good at the children's songs, and I anticipate the patriotic and holiday songs will also be in heavy rotation), but they have made some nice, general selections that will appeal to a wide audience. If you have a crowd who wants to gather around the piano and sing, you will get pretty far with this one book. I would recommend this for any piano library.

It is a high quality book and contains the words and a little bit of history about each song. The arrangements are perfect for the intermediate player with a bit of a challenge. The only (small) complaint I would have it that it does not contain a table of contents of the songs, only the general classification of each set (American Patriotic Songs, Children's Songs, Film & Show Tunes, etc)

I wanted something that I could sit down and play for kids to sing along with that I could easily just sight read. This is perfect. Great binding and pretty graphics are a bonus. I love that it's organized by category too, not alphabetically or randomly like some other's I've seen.

They include patriotic, jazz, folk, children melodies, and Christmas songs, to name a few,They are fun to play and well written. I recommend this music song book for fun gatherings with family and friends.

This treasury is exactly what I was looking for when I began searching for an accompaniment sing a long book to use with my kids. It has almost every song I wanted, and plenty more I wouldn't have even thought of.The book itself is high quality - heavy card stock pages, spiral bound, beautiful pictures and clear typeset. The arrangements are easy to read and the lyrics are a decent size for most eyes. Each song has a paragraph of history/explanation at the top and these are filled with gems in and of themselves.The quality of the musical arrangements is also top notch - they are simple enough for most pianists to play without much rehearsal (early intermediate in difficulty) but written in such a way that the greater mood of the song is really captured. The harmonies are well selected to deliver maximum musical impact with minimal difficulty. Almost all of these songs are set in very easy keys as well, which is a bonus for sight reading without much preparation.My only criticisms, and they are small, are that there are no suggested fingerings on any of these pieces and that some verses are missing from a few of the songs. With the fingerings, it would do any pianist well to go through the songs before playing and write in a few - a lack of fingerings can unnecessarily stumble sight readers. With the missing verses, all the most popular refrains are represented and most pieces are complete as written (to the best of my knowledge) so this quibble is minor. If I really want the fifth verse of random-patriotic-anthem, I can pull it up on Google easily enough and just play another repeat of the score.For families who want to spend some time singing old favorites together, to charity playing in nursing homes or even as a supplement to a homeschool unit on a historical event, "The Great Family Songbook" is a phenomenal addition to any sheet music library. Our family will be enjoying this for many years to come!

If you have to have one book to take to camp or something, this is probably a good one. I am using it at Nursing homes, and i am thinking about donating one to the home so it is there if someone who is staying at the home knows how to play piano and does not have sheet music, because it is a good pickup.The back has a section called "Guitar Instructional Tips: How to Use This Book, which contains information about strumming, single note and chord playing, expanding the thumb-index pattern, arpeggios, and Travis pickingContents just has the sections, though, you have to go to the index to find individual songs, and it is a long index, as it also includes composer information.

This book has some wonderful advice of self-acceptance, knowing you are worth and how to share your kindness to others. Her voice and timing felt as though you were talking to an old friend that was passing on their wisdom. While the end of the book I felt was a bit repetitive it really drives homes the point and you cannot control the world around you but in this moment and this time you can decide on what truly will make your heart full of love by trusting your instincts and allowing time for yourself.

The advise seems too simplistic. I did appreciate her telling about her background. She seems to realize that she is not perfect and she is "speaking " to people who have many imperfections too. I admire her very much and know she helps people of all races and conditions. Her advice affects us all.

I will recommend this book to everyone in my life. I will purchase this book for all the women in my life. I gave this book review 5 stars because it touched on every major point in my life the very belief I held in my heart that took me to the other side of the challenges this book confirmed my heart was on the right path. At all times-during those situations I looked within for the answers and my heart has never failed to protect me. Oprah inspires me to continue on my path and step it up a notch or more. At 53 I removed myself from a 13 year relationship and struggled with at my age a chance to love again is over. Today is six months since I asked him to leave. I now know without a doubt my life is just getting started. This was the perfect book to read and inspire me to continue on with all that I am. I do know this that we are not here to be loved it is to love others - along the way if love finds us as it will, it's a bonus. I realized when I left the love for myself was greater than that dysfunctional relationship. I wake up each day in wonder and an open heart because that is just who I am and I love every fiber of me. Thank you Oprah for the confirmation that my path is mine to create and if a situation doesn't align with all that I am it's ok to walk away.

What I know for sure is that Oprah wrote a fine book. It's a series of short essays with the theme of what Oprah knows for sure. She sometimes tells how she got there. It's wonderful. I feel better having just read it.It's a pretty book. One made for keeping forever or giving as a gift. After reading just part way I sent a copy to my grown daughters. I hope they love it as much as I do.

I have never written an Amazon review before, but that is because I have never been so disappointed. That is because Amazon appears to have started using a different publisher for this book just at the beginning of this month, but kept all of the reviews and ratings from the previous publisher. This copy is absolute TRASH. The typeset is so terrible that it renders the book practically unreadable. They literally cut some words off in the middle and then print them in the middle of the next page. Some paragraphs are segmented into a number of chunks that follow no rhyme or reason. Not to mention the numerous typos throughout. I simply do not understand how this is acceptable.(Note: At the time of this review, the publisher is currently listed as: Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform (March 3, 2018) )

Ernest Hemingway's "A Farewell to Arms" is one of the books I have re-read the most throughout my life, along with Hemingway's "The Sun Also Rises," Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" and "Under Western Eyes" and Joyce's "A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man." In many ways, it is to me, as 'perfect' as any novel I have ever read. Its structure is flawless, the characters unforgettable, and the writing is bold and terse, hard and yielding all at the same time. I never fail to learn something new each time I read this wonderful work of art. If I was to teach a class on how to write a novel, this would be the book I would assign to my class.The Hemingway Library Edition of "A Farewell to Arms" I received as a gift also came with an Appendix that included the thirty-nine other endings Hemingway considered for the novel. Many are quite telling and a two were used in the serialized versions that appeared in Scribner magazines before the actual publication of the book. I simply love this book.

While I have read the story before and it is amazing, this book was an absolute waste of money. I spent the money expecting to get the entire book yet I only received half as if the publisher decided I can do this and sell a lot more. There we multiple typos too many to count. The final issue was there were no page numbers. after buying this book for a college course I was disappointed that this was a waste of time and money. I would recommend looking for a pdf copy off of Google or perhaps go to your local library it is much more useful than buying this particular group.

This is my favorite novel. I am a huge fan of Hemingway's "Never use a large word, where a simple word will work," writing style. If you're unfamiliar with this, take a look inside to see what I mean. The style is slow, and relatively uneventful.This is not a book for children. They could read it, but would perhaps miss many of the main themes. There is certainly rampant alcohol-use throughout the book.I love the book because Hemingway won't give the reader the ending they're expecting. He forces the reader to consider the the book over and over again. I may be simply written, and not for the Shakespearean-read scholar, but enjoyable and steady.

Though retired now and with all the books I have read it occurred to me that the only Hemmingway I had tried was an audio of Old Man And The Sea. Across The River and Into the Trees’ appeared to be a good place to start, it was. The introduction by Acino Acinonyx almost made me put this Kindle version away for a later time both because it was apparent nobody had read the introduction, corrected the flaws made during conversion, or checked the facts, which were very often wrong and contradictory. Skip that part, it isn’t worth your time.As for the novel itself, I enjoyed it. It is more about the characters than any deep story but the plot twists move you along at a decent pace. I had read about Hemmingway’s “ice berg” style, which is very interesting, but what really appealed to me is how this ebbed and flowed without the drastic actions found in many of our current day novels. As a writer I know that that isn’t an easy thing to do. I also know that today’s writers often focus on the story while Hemmingway’s characters become real, you know them well by the end of the book.I’m not saying that the current crop of writers are bad, Hemmingway is just different and different from the old “classic” authors in that this is not a series of scenes which may or may not be related. He strips out side stories and keeps you moving though you are not sure to where.I highly recommend you read this, especially if you are a writer and even if you have read Hemmingway before without satisfaction. This is a very good read.

This was a really interesting book for our family, and especially for me. We read this book together, with my 10 year old doing the reading (which impresses me every time). I don't remember learning all the fun adventure bits that were included in this book in my childhood. The illustrations were interesting, although in this book, the facts were more impacting. The book format really highlights the images and gives ample time for talking about the drawings.This book gives enough information to build a foundation, without being too in-depth or overwhelming. For us, it was random, for others, it would work well. I also think this book would work well for a classroom, because there is a lot of opportunity for talking about the pictures, or even completing a written or drawing assignment. Personally, as a homeschooler, I love books like this one that give valuable information in a quick and easy to digest format.Overall: Neat information, as quick or slow as you make it. We enjoyed it, and I think that most young children would be interested in reading this with their grown-up.The Kindle version of this book was provided to me for free, with the expectation that I review it honestly.

This is a great book for basic information on some of the amazing monuments, buildings, bridges, etc. that can be seen around the world. My son liked this as we read the facts about each building. It was a great springboard to learning more about each thing or place in the book. The next time we go to the library, he already wants to check out more books on Stonehenge, London Bridge, and the Eiffel Tower--all because of being introduced to them in this book.Topics in this book were: Great Buddha (Thailand), The Great Wall (China), Itsukushima Shrine (Japan), Merlion (Singapore), Petra (Jordan), Taj Mahal (India), Terracotta Warriors (China), Big Ben (United Kingdom), Colosseum (Italy), Eiffel Tower (France), Tower of Pisa (Italy), London Bridge (United Kingdom), Sphinx (Greece), Stonehenge (England), Chichen Itza (Mexico), Statue of Liberty (USA), Sydney Opera House (Australia), Christ the Redeemer (Brazil), Machu Picchu (Peru).As I teach him things at home, I really enjoy these types of books to get some basic information in front of him and then we can go deeper once I learn what his interests are. This book of Cool Places Around The World is a great example of this sort of tool for learning. I liked the simple picture to go with each description. There weren't lots of pictures to distract from the information that was shared. This was a great "plus" to this book, in my opinion. Often books have so many pictures that the information is lost. The actual text was great. There was just enough information to learn and it held my son's attention during the entire book. I almost wished there were more things in here since he was so interested in learning about things he'd never heard of or seen before such as: Machu Picchu and The Tower of Pisa.I did purchase this book at a discounted rate for my unbiased opinions and thoughts.

Adventure book for Kids: Cool places around the world, by speedy publishing, was in my opinion actually a very enjoyable read.I would recommend this title and publisher to other parents looking for more educational titles for your family. to date I have chosen several youth books from speedy publishing, and to that end this one would have to rank in my top 5.I will say I am also quite pleased by the fact that this title has more content than most of the others, With that said I would have to say that I think this specific book might be more target towards older youth readers.I really enjoyed how the book was broken into continents. I also enjoyed that for each continent they choose to discuss several locations, landmarks of historic significance, and the book describes each one in an inviting way that not only goes over the facts but they also have some appealing illustrations along with it.The facts are well written and detailed, while not being too overbearing or boring to the reader. The book managed to keep you very engaged in actively reading.My daughter and I really enjoyed reading this book together after dinner tonight, I do want to disclose that I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This is a cute book that my six year old really enjoyed. The book is broken into sections by continent. It then lists a historical item from various countries. For instance, it starts with the Great Buddha from Thailand, with a brief description and a stylized drawing on the adjoining page. This repeats for other continents and countries. The descriptions are short enough to keep the attention of a wandering young mind. After reading the book, my son wanted to look at actual pictures of some of the things featured in the book, such as Stonehenge and the Great Wall.I must admit that I have been very satisfied with the small Speedy Publishing books. This publisher has several educational books that are short in length and interesting for young minds. Our best purchase so far. I have started homeschooling, my daughter is an incredibly self motivated Aspie.(Started teaching herself multiplication, four languages, etc) and we have used this book to inspire a Unit Study learning approach. With the study of "Why the Cheetah's Cheeks are Stained with Tears" we learned about velocity/acceleration (physics - by comparison via youtube), cheetahs (biology), the art and music and dance of the Zulu tribe, geography (continuing on from her geographic instruction from Africa - also she has a friend in school from South Africa so this helped inspire her) - I adore this book. I've already put on order others by the same author/publisher. It's a great tool for learning and exploring. I wish I had had access to this during my school years.

This book is so wonderful!! I bought it for my 7 year old niece and I’m ordering one for myself right now. It is a real gem. If you like a sterelized american version of things it sure might not be for you but I think it’s crucial to expose kids to the rest of the world and foreign cultures. These tales are from all around the world and are simply magical. Most of them carry a moral message too which is great because it can leave the child to reflect afterwards or create a good opportunity to disscuss about moral topics after reading the story with them. I can’t reccommend it enough.

We love this book. It's really a bargain at this price. Gorgeous pictures. We love the diversity too. Makes a wonderful gift.

A beautiful book full of great stories and lovely illustrations. It was the Christmas gift my 6 year old spent the most time looking at.

Beatiful art and content, but my cover arrived with the gold title letters peeled and black marks on the illustrations beneath the lettering...aside from other dings. So sad because the book itself is so pretty.

This is one of our new favorite books! It is stunning and I love how it has stories from different continents/countries. My seven year old loves it!
