My grandson loves the book

My nieces, nephews and grandchildren each picked a different airplane from this book and spent the weekend building them. It was a great adventure watching them visualize and build the scale model of each of their choices. They are all different ages and skill levels so it was a real test of the instructions and author's dedication to his craft. Everyone enjoyed the book. They've already chosen their next challenges!

This is a great book, featuring instructions for three levels of LEGO building expertise. Small and easy to builds, more complex builds and real challenging builds. The easy and medium builds are easy to put together from most LEGOs you may have lying around. My son had a couple of disassembled Star War builds in his LEGO box and I was able to do a couple of the simple and medium builds without a problem.Being older, I loved the more challenging builds. The SR-71 Blackbird and the P-38 Lightning were my favorite builds. The pages included step by step instructions, where each piece goes and how modules of varying pieces are placed and how to connect to the larger frame work and onward until the completed aircraft creation.The book includes the list of and number of pieces needed in the appendix, plus where to order what you need (bricklink). Purchase and enjoy the grand adventure of gathering and assembling some of these aircraft on your own.

This is a great book with excellent instructions. There are also charts for all the pieces needed for each plane. This is a great book for all ages.

I've read on ton of books of art history and theory, and this one stands out as one of the best.Through thirty years of friendship and discussions, Weschler traces Bob Irwin's career, from buffing car dashboards in high school to creating monumental gardens and installations in his old age. The benefit of this extended coverage is that we get to see how Irwin develops in every stage of his career, often as these developments are happening. We discover how relationships, environment, the art world, and philosophy influence Irwin's evolution and how each element manifests itself in his work.Irwin typically deals with abstract, minimalist, and formalist art which is often considered "difficult", even by open minded art viewers. In these interviews, he extensively details his mental and physical process, offering an unparalleled look at just what goes into these works. He recounts staring at a canvas for weeks, trying to decide precisely where a line should go and what impact it will have on the finished work. Even if you don't find yourself mesmerized by the next Agnes Martin you come across after reading this book, you'll at least gain an appreciation of why some people find it interesting and what might have been going through the mind of the artist when he/she created it.Part of what this makes this biography so compelling is that Irwin is an incredibly appealing character. Most successful artists are pigeonholed as shameless self-promoters or tortured geniuses. Irwin comes across as humble, brilliant, open minded, sincere, and indefatigably dedicated to his work. He seems like an art world version of Richard Feynman; the kind of curious guy you'd love to explore ideas with over a beer. He can talk about betting the ponies and Wittgenstein. He has a soft spot for Cadillacs but doesn't mind living a frugal, almost hermetic existence. He's fascinated by both the mind and the soul.This book isn't a page turner (though Bob is an excellent story teller). It's really best savored and carefully considered. But, if you're interested in Irwin, abstract art, art theory, the artistic process, hope to increase your art appreciation, or are just looking for an interesting biography, this is well worth a read.

One of those few gifted people that through sheer curiosity and intellect is able to beat categories and bridge gaps, making new, much broader connections for us. The book beautifully portrays the rare paradoxes of the work and the man himself, somehow two sides of the same coin. His work, irreducible, ascetic, intentionally limited in its vocabulary; and the man, hyper-articulate and expansive ("…this man who shuns metaphors, and yet is so gifted by them"). Author of artworks avant-garde and obscure for most; Irwin is a pleasure to read as he reasons and works through his questions (I read this book as a 29 year-old, and I have no doubt Irwin would be able to explain his work to a 9 year old), interweaving art with philosophy, science, perception and consciousness as parts of the same grand whole.Much credit is due to its author Lawrence Weschler, who writes with enviable ease and works through Irwin's life and work narrative with astounding poetry, adding lots to an already great story. The title alone gave me chills every time I grabbed the book. So did the beautiful opening quotes at each chapter. Weschler spent 30 years of his life documenting Irwin, and has dexterously condensed the best of it in 300 pages, greatly managing quotation and commentary.One of the book's main threads and one of the great preoccupations of Irwin is perception and attention to what's already there. Reading this book, it seemed to me these topics are today more relevant than ever, when we seem in general insatiable and fragmented. The lifelong dedication of Irwin to such questions are not only enlightening to learning artists, like it's my case, but a general reminder to exercise the simple gifts of being human.

Whoever said that this is 'the best book on art ever written' is correct. I have read it three times and will probably continue to do so until I die. For me it was a page by page journey of discovery... about life, art and especially 'seeing'.

One of the best books I have ever read. I delight to read about Robert Irwin's design process first hand, and evolve over time. Highly recommended, bought 3 as gifts after I finished it.

The book is great. The paper is a little glossy which I am not a fan of but the content is what matters and it’s a great read.

Next level. Beautifully written stories within a meta story about a genius who is incredibly inspiring. I wish more people would read this and be influenced by Irwin's approach to life. Savior the experience, the experience is the art, and the experience is whenever you decide to be present. Whenever you decide to perceive. Whether your eyes are open or closed, you can always see.

Amazing biography of Robert Irwin. He was an interesting artist to me before I read the book. Now he is my favorite artist.

Great book for beginners. Before I read this I had a very elementary understanding of the game. I knew all of the winning hands, I knew the betting structure in Hold 'Em (blinds, button, etc). To be able to go inside the mind of a professional player as he plays through every hand of a tournament is invaluable. I learned so much strategy from Gus. And even though he was playing tournament poker I was able to apply these techniques on a 1/2 NLH cash game and win several hundred dollars right after finishing the book.

Great book! I read several poker books but this one is simply the best. Show the mindset of a great hyper aggressive player on several different situations and considering every angle. You should have basic understandings of texas holdem poker like the power of position, stack sizes, image (yours and adversary) but even for the one's that don't have that knowledge already Gus makes it easy and practical to understand since you have several examples of how every single thing affects a hand.A must have! I have read it several times already. It seems a big book but since you have a lot of visuals you will just fly through it in a very short time.

What a wonderful book! Gus is the ONLY pro poker player to ever do this type of book (record every hand and give narrative to his decisions) the only con is this will RUIN your game if you try his strategies, lol. I was five years into a poker career when I read this and it destroyed my game. I've come back several times to read it again and it's always a great refresher into one of the top minds of the poker world. Can't recommend it enough.

Known as the madman of poker Gus Hansen is fearless, aggressive, and even considered crazy by some. Yet, there is a method to his madness. He has won several World Poker Tour Tournaments. In this ground-breaking book he reveals every hand he played during the 2007 Aussie Millions Championship game against 747 players where he took home a cool $1.2 million. You can look over the shoulder of this incredibly strategic player as he makes his unconventional decisions in tournament play. This is one of my favorite poker books. I have never seen another one like it.

Gus Hansen achieved fame early on in the World Poker Tour from his seemingly reckless and erratic style of play. As seen on TV, Hansen would play any two cards in position and apply maximum aggression with absolutely no hand and no draw. And somehow this strategy seemed to work: he'd frequently get his opponents to lay down hands as strong as top pair to his well-timed moves of aggression.But "Every Hand Revealed" lives up to its name: Gus Hansen's secret is revealed. As many poker authors have cautioned their readers, the hands actually *shown* on television are entirely atypical. The producers edited out all the mundane hands where nothing much happened and no one attempted any wild bluffs. Also, they edited out the entire first part of the tournament, where 95% of the players were slowly eliminated. By focusing on high-blind, final table action (and only the most unusual and exciting hands), we all got a distorted view of Gus Hansen's game.Here, Gus Hansen walks his readers through every hand he played in a successful big money hold em tournament. It's fairly clear that Gus, unlike many poker professionals, actually wrote this book himself (or had it transcribed from his voice recordings taken at the table). We truly get a look inside the reasoning process of a top poker professional. Gus Hansen is still a somewhat loose player, and very aggressive, but now we see the method behind his madness. More importantly, we see how he can make tough folds when he's in trouble.The only unfortunate aspect of this book is its extremely poor (or non-existent) editing. I can't blame Gus for a lack of fluency in English, his second language. I can blame the editors at Citadel for not doing a professional job in clarifying his use of words. Of course, perhaps the low, low cover price reflects the lack of editing. Either way, it's bad enough to slightly mar an otherwise excellent book.If you like this style of learning poker through detailed hand-by-hand analysis, I'd also recommend The Poker Tournament Formula and Poker Tips that Pay: Expert Strategy Guide for Winning No Limit Texas Hold em, both of which also walk the reader through the reasoning process in dozens of interesting poker hands.

It's a pity that there aren't more of these hand-by-hand records. This one is great fun, and Gus Hansen comes across as a very modest and honest chap; when he can't give an explanation for what he did, he doesn't try. But a lot of his decisions are explained, and those explanations should give most players something to think about. However this is not really a 'how to' book. It reads as a stream-of-conciousness; a first person report straight from the action. It's more like "Being Gus Hansen" than a book aiming to teach theory through live examples. So many of his decisions were determined by the particular way his opponents react that there are few directly applicable ideas here. (Reading this book certainly helped my game but only by widening my perspective on the table.) His game is so well integrated around his personal legend that he plays in a style that is fascinating to follow but which other players would not have success with (without a total game and image makeover). In an amazing postscript he agrees with another analyst that, basically, "Gus never bluffs". Most of us can't play that way, but here we can read about what it's like.

I really enjoyed this book, and I liked the format in which it was written. I liked that it was set in a narrative, which made it more interesting to follow along. The only reason for "4" stars, rather than "5" is that I could not access the workbook that the author refers to throughout the book. I clicked on the link, but nothing happened. Nevertheless, the info in the book itself was great!

I've put some of these principles into place, and am excited for the future. Thank you, Mr Roberts for the great book!

I applied for a few scholarships in high school and got a fair portion of them but never thought of using that same information to spears a huge net and really increase the odds of having college money available. I held a full-time job to make ends meet and it would have been a huge benefit to apply some of these scholarship application principles. The narrative way the book is written in makes it very enjoyable and easy to digest. I didn't spend a lot of time on worksheets but would really encourage my children to take time to complete the assignments as a course during their high school years. At this point in my life, the information on the educational savings account was very helpful and make me excited to look into it more for my own children.

So many financial books (or any books in the "self-help" category) are so dry and preachy. This book is not. It relates to traditional classics in that the lesson is in the story, making it easier to follow and to internalize. I'll definitely be returning to this book.So often we feel doomed or stuck because of unforeseen situations. I am a voracious book reader. Almost to the point of obsession. I have thousands, in all different genres and formats. This book is in my top 5 all time favorite books ever, which says a lot!! Do yourself a favor though and get a hardcover copy, it add to the experience. :-DFor my review, I won't get into the actual story line or historic facts VS. mythology and fiction (many reviewers have already gone that route). I want to express my overall impressions of this book, because the feelings this book evoked caused 10+ rereads!The writing in this book is incredible. It sucks you right into the time period and character's minds. You really feel you're there with them experiencing everything. There is historical accuracy mixed in with fiction, little elements like clothing and food that are woven throughout the story in a way that's not tedious to read, but adds to the feel of the book. It's like stepping into a time machine. The interpersonal relationships are masterful and you really become part of the story. When you think of King Arthur myths, this is the type of story you envision. One that makes you question your beliefs about magic, mystery, and humanity -- that in my mind is perfect historical fiction. The author poured her heart and soul into this book, and it shows on every single page.Bottom line, it's not a book ... it's an experience.

I’ve always been a sucker for King Arthur. In between my Robin Hood phases as a kid, I went through reams of stories about Camelot. And in college, I happily hiked around the ruins of Tintagel in Cornwall (supposedly the place of Arthur’s birth). But Marion Zimmer Bradley’s The Mists of Avalon was something new for me: the King Arthur legend from the perspectives of important women in his life, namely Igraine, his mother; Viviane, his eldest aunt; Morgause, his youngest aunt; Gwenhwyfar (a.k.a. Guinevere), his wife; and Morgaine (a.k.a. Morgana), his half-sister.Morgaine is the main protagonist. And unlike in most retellings, she’s not an evil sorceress. Instead, she’s an initiate of Avalon, a mythical island that’s home to a sect of Goddess worshippers trying to stave off Christianity’s growing influence over Britain. Bradley includes the familiar love triangle between Arthur, Gwenhwyfar, and Lancelet (a.k.a. Lancelot), but the contest of religions is the core struggle in The Mists of Avalon. Viviane, Lady of Avalon when the story begins, places Arthur on the throne so that he may serve his Christian and non-Christian subjects alike. But Gwenhwyfar convinces him to become ever more Christian, and Viviane and Morgaine consider this conversion a betrayal of the oaths he swore to win the crown. In the years that follow, Avalon sets itself against Camelot and grows intolerant in kind.Not everyone is as narrow-minded about religion, however. Morgause has little use for gods or goddesses, while the druidic Merlins (plural, in this version) believe all deities are one. Such a diversity of viewpoints is also present in how Bradley portrays the different spheres of influence available to women in her historical fantasy of early Britain. In Avalon, Morgaine and Viviane lead a matriarchal society. In the North, Morgause defies convention and rules as a queen who takes lovers as she wills. But in the South, Igraine and Gwenhwyfar (mostly) accept their priests’ advisements that they should be content to stay in their castles and make children and clothing for their husbands.The overall story is more philosophical than I’m used to for a tale of King Arthur. It’s also slower; The Mists of Avalon spans generations and glosses over the usual knightly contests and heroic deeds. But if you want a Camelot that makes you think, Bradley’s seminal work is worth a read.

I have read this novel a couple of times now and each time it is more rich. It is very long, but there aren't any parts that ever feel like filler, to me. It is an interesting reexamination of a classic branch of mythology, and a from a different point of view. The novel is from the perspectives of the female cast members: Morgaine, Gwenhyfar, Igraine, and Viviane, called the lady of the lake as the leader of the priestesses of the Goddess on the island of Avalon. As such, there is a strong dialogue about the role of women in the time in which the drama unfolds, and an interesting comparison to some earlier civilizations whose primary deities were female. These elements: the role of women in society, particularly in relation to the position of prevailing religious beliefs, and gender roles loom larger than the development of the core story with which most people are familiar. For some, this may be a detriment but I find it is the true merit of the novel and makes the fundamental material on which it is based more interesting.

I continued to read much further than I would normally do with a book that didn't capture me. I won't say the entire book was bad, and there were parts that were actually interesting, I'm just very disappointed. I've wanted to read this for years.First off, the time line is rather difficult to follow. It jumps ahead so quickly and frequently that it becomes nearly impossible to keep track. The hatred and vitriol that rolls off of Gwenhwyfar (don't get me started on some of the name spellings). Judging Morgaine and finding ways in which to blame everyone but herself for the bad things she does. Really all the women are whiny little children that are stomping their feet because they don't get their way. Stabbing one another in the back almost ceaselessly.I made it about halfway through the fourth "book" before I just finally couldn't take it anymore. And that was with a break to read another book.

So, Patrick's book became a wonderful guide for me and my students, as it's entirely spot on and so well-explained with regard to just about anything one would need to know.The actors are thrilled with their improvement and I am, as well. This book should be in everyone's public speaking toolbox. When preparing for an important business meeting for a potentially large client, I thought that it may be helpful to improve upon my presentation skills. That is how I came across this book. At first, I thought that this was a resource for people with a foreign dialect only. However after reviewing its contents and learning about the author, I decided to give it a read. It turns out that even though I did not realize it, I actually did need some help with my "American Accent." I feel that it helped me present with more clarity and that I had additional confidence as I spoke. Overall I think it helped eliminate the strong transmission of some of my "East Coast Accent" and kept the group focus on what I was presenting!
