After having a recent problem with a Hamster, I did as much reading as I could to try and solve the problem (biting, anxiety, don't ask...). But as a result, I got the opportunity to read all the top rated books here. If you're trying to decide which one book to buy, this is the one.A few others are very good too, but lack in different ways. Hamsters for Dummies has a lot of good info, but it's all black and white and no color pictures, which I think is important. This book is all color with tons of pictures. It includes all the basic info you want, like housing choices, food options, treats, behavior, common ailments, etc. and also has more extensive info on the the history, different breeds, breeding, etc. It's well layed out, with a good index. The author clearly knows her hamstmers and tells it as she sees it in the first person.It's also worth mentioning that this is a good book for an adult, or older child. So many hamster books are written for children. That's nice, except me as the mother will be the one actually buying everything and probably doing most of the care anyway.So, if you're looking for that one book to either help decide if you want a hamster, or have a reference while taking care of these pets, I think this is the best choice.

This book is packed full of information on hamsters and I found it quite surprising.this is more of a mature child or adult read ,but its written very well and has more information than I ever expected on Hamsters..breeds,color and care but lots of infomation on habits in the home and the best chances of taming and enjoying your hamster in a good cage setting..of coarse diseases and health care are discussed.a good home for the hamster with the proper food is what is most important..Im so glad to find books on these and other small animals being written to give the animal its full benifit in its life and to be enjoyed.B.W.

I enjoyed this book so much and have recommended it to friends. You never know what Layne is going to do next. She is absolutely fearless. She starts out in the restaurant business and then before we know it we are whisked away to Argentina and the tango which Layne decides to master. Somewhere along the way, she starts taking taxis and asking the taxi drive to take her to his (or her) favorite restaurant. The results vary. Layne describes the meals in loving detail. Being a vegetarian, I couldn't quite share her enthusiasm for most of the meals. Nevertheless, one gains an appreciation of local cooking. As an aside I tried asking a taxi driver on a recent trip about his favorite restaurant hoping to discover some local treasure. "Golden Corral" was his answer, "great food at a reasonable price" Through a series of adventures and misadventures Layne starts driving a taxi in New York City. At that point I began to doubt her sanity. She does survive and the book ends in Germany where she meets a very compatible taxi driver. I hope that there is a sequel and wonder if Layne will drive a taxi in Germany.

One more very privileged woman finding her way in the world. I enjoyed the food and taxi driver stories but skimmed the soul searching.

Didn't know what to expect when I bought this as I am neither a fan of memoirs (thanks to 3 Cups of Tea) nor cooking. But wow, this is such an interesting book I could hardly put it down. I read it in the span of 24 hours - umm, calling in sick from work to finish it off.The author tells a rather aimless, yet entertaining story of her life full of travel, love and cooking. Such a great book. I highly recommend it.

I really enjoyed this book. It was well written and very interesting. It's about food, three cities and personal relationships and interactions. And taxis!

I thought I was purchasing a very different book then this . Not so much about food , more about a women's journey . And for me personally not very interesting . Driving a taxi , really ? I did enjoy the ending therefore 3 stars . I wish I could give more , but no .

An engaging , smart and funny memoir about taxi driving, tango, food, and love. A very enjoyable and educational read. Loved it!!!!!!!

I was extremely skeptical about this book when I first picked it up. I feared it would be all 'woo-woo' and 'scented candles'. I have a lot of reservations about the whole self-help/relationship/men are from mars category. After a few pages, I was able to put those fears aside. This book is filled with useful, step-by-instructions, well researched, scientifically-based observations and highly relatable real world examples. The author's personal story, honesty and background added to the reading experience too. Quite often with advice books, there's a few golden nuggets but a lot of fluff/irrelevance but I've gone back and noticed that I've bookmarked more pages than I normally would. In each section, there was at least one insight that made me go "I didn't think of that before but that is so true". I also appreciate how it never patronizes and recognizes too that women change - both physically and mentally - and not all rules apply. If you want to rid yourself of false beliefs, address your guilt and relationship issues, transition from the boardroom to the bedroom without suppressing who you are - read this book.

I read it without doing the exercises, but will be sitting down again to go through them all.I applaud the author for bringing all of her knowledge forward in such a candid and vulnerable way. I recommend this to anyone who wants to find their own happiness.

Seemingly well-researched book about the birth of death metal (and make no mistake, this book is about death metal first and foremost -- it covers grindcore only to the extent that Napalm Death, Repulsion, Terrorizer, etc helped kickstart DM). I agree with other reviewers who state that the book focuses mainly on a small group of very influential bands: Napalm Death, Carcass, Morbid Angel. There are of course other bands discussed, but none so much as those three. Personally, I'd have liked to see more material on the Swedish bands, and other Americans like Possessed, Autopsy, Atheist, etc. Also, there's only cursory material on death metal after the mid-90s. Still, if you want to know how death metal started, this book gives a good account.I will say there is FAR TOO MUCH DETAIL about the business side of things here. Readers will get everything they ever wanted to know about Napalm Death's dealings with their labels -- but if you aren't in the band, worked with the label, or have an itch to be an A&R hound for underground metal, you'll probably do like I did, and skim over large portions of this book.A better written book was Daniel Ekeroth's history of Swedish Death Metal, which seems a lot more personal, and intergrates ideas and inspirations among bands much better.

Very cool book. Straight from all the horses' mouths. I learned a lot I did not know, and was reminded of a lot I did. Great Summer read for extreme metal heads.

The only book about extreme metal that you need. Mudrian, a death metal/grindcore fanatic/expert, lays it all out in gory detail. This deluxe edition is an upgrade from the original (lots of new material) and well worth the money, even if you're a fan of the first edition.

This book was very well written and it's such a great read that just keeps you reading on. Albert Mudrian did a great job with this project and I really hope they turn it into a documentary someday.

I thought that a lot of the information was good. They gave a good account of how death metal and grindcore came to be what they are. I would have liked to see more on Possessed and more on other bands that influenced the creation of death metal, such as Slayer. All in all though? Pretty good book. I have it on my kindle and in paperback edition

Roig-Francoli's 'Harmony in Context' is one of the best texts I have read in the study of harmony. But the Kindle edition is absolutely dreadful. The principal problem is that the notation samples in the text don't render properly at normal scale, so parts of staves, dynamics and other markings are often missing. You can zoom in, and then the rendering improves. But if you zoom in, you can't take in more than a measure or two at a glance which is often counter-productive. The other major problem with this text is that there is a substantial quantity of accompanying music files but they are not offered for download at the publisher's website as a single file. You have to dig in and download them one by one. This is very time-consuming. If you are earning median wage, you may find that you waste more than the value of this edition trying to download, rename and organize the associated files. That said, I would strongly urge anyone interested in the study of harmony to go out and buy the physical edition right now. It will be money well spent!

The book covers a great amount of material comprehensively but is poorly written. The necessary information is buried under layers of weak language and is therefore neither as succinct nor efficient as it could be. They layout also poses an annoying problem as the text on one page will cite examples or diagrams on preceding or succeeding pages, making the reader flip pages and usually lose track of information from the example or writing.The companion Workbook is fine and provides good exercises but the Anthology is not well labeled in a couple places. The Workbook and Textbook are costly, though, creating a poor deal of the textbook.Overall, this book is fine only if you are willing to put in the time to deal with it and try to understand it. My music professor says it's the best written of other textbooks he's looked through, but recognizes that that's not saying a lot.

Excellent book, used it through my theory classes. Bought the Kindle version to put on my iPad, because the spine is breaking on my book (of 6 years), and it isn't compatible with iPad. I'm a little upset, but not enough to give it a bad review....Just beware!

As a beginner, I find this a much better text for college Music Theory than "Theory and Analysis". More discourse.If one had Theory before MUT than maybe the other textbook would be preferred.

I bought this is a Christmas present for a relative who fixes up and sells cars. It's printed on nice, heavy, glossy paper. The book is divided into sections starting with early cars (through 1920), and then with a section for each decade thereafter. AT the beginning of each section is a double page with small pictures of representative cars from that decade, each labelled, and then closer looks at cars from that decade. It's well done. There are descriptions of the workings of an internal combustion engine, but they are not too technical. This book is very nice for anyone who likes cars, or, really, for someone who enjoys looking at the progression of something which is really central to our lives today.

Perfect for my car - enthused 4 year old! My husband thought American cars in it are limited (if that matters to you) but there are some. It is excellent with big pictures and an index when he wants to find the Lincoln Zephyr. Highly recommend.

This was actually a gift for my three year old daughter and my husband for Christmas! My daughter and husband are both obsessed with cars. This has been one of the best car books I he looked through- it is a complete history! Both have spent hours looking and reading about all the cars. I like how the book is separated by decade!

Bought this for Christmas for both my dad and father-in-law, both who are interested in cars in general and classic cars. The quality is much better than I had hoped for. The book is very heavy, the type people used to leave out on their coffee table. Very nice quality pages and photography inside. Both were very pleased with their gift.
